Joseph was speaking from experience. If he had only held those same views in Kirkland, maybe Oliver Cowdery and the Whitmers would have remained members.

Chalk up another point in favor of David Whitmer being right about Joseph becoming a fallen prophet.

BH Roberts and the Mormon Political Left:

[B. H. Roberts] earned ecclesiastical censure on more than one occasion for openly opposing the brethren’s use of ecclesiastical influence to advance the Republican cause. Roberts regarded such behavior as nothing short of “damnable,” and he wasn’t afraid to say so in public editorials. In his mind, the principles of the Democratic party were “self-existent;” “eternal as God is, and . . . no more to be created by man than gravitation.”

...

In the early 1930s, Roberts embraced the doctrine of socialism: “a new economic policy, for a new age, to take the place of the capitalistic system and its spirit, wherein shall exist more equality and more justice than in the age now passing; a policy wherein there will be a more consistent division of the profits of the conjoint products of capital and labor than heretofore; where the wealth produced by that conjoint effort shall not forever flow into the possession of the ‘one,’ while the ninety and nine’ have but empty hands!” In other words, we are the 99%.

Chris, how was property worked out in Nauvoo. I understand that some members ended up with Mosquito infested properties.

No scripture is of private interpretation, hence published doctrine Trump's.

Ignoring for a moment that that passage you quote comes from a fraudulent source, interpretation is not the same thing as contradiction. And the leaders/anonymous manual copywriters you like to quote flatly contradict the plain meaning of scripture.

Wow. That's a new one. So much for private scripture study. I guess the old priests and monks had it right back in the day when the scriptures were only available in Latin. There was never a need to publish the scriptures in English and other languages for the masses. We must only rely on the leader's interpretation of scripture.

Some have speculated that the term common suggests a type of communalism or “Christian Communism.” This interpretation is in error.

Thread issue is not communalism or communism. Thread issue is socialism. Do you have an Official Church Publication, that being the Official Standard, saying that the Law of Consecration was not socialism?
