In my experience, at least a majority (although not all) of the bishops and stake presidents in the church are mega-orthodox nutjobs like Schryver and Pahoran. The kind of super-Mormons who can sniff out a free-thinker a mile away. You either leave the fold altogether or sit quietly in GD and bite your tongue.

However, if it were me, instead of actually blacklisting someone, I would merely make sure they were not on the list of substitutes at all if I felt they were not appropriate to teach the class.

Yes, consiglieri! Confront the bishop directly and get specific reasons for why you've been "black-listed" and the please come back here and report his reply. Get his phone# and call him tonight, or get an appt. with him and make him tell you face to face the reasons for being black-listed.

A few months ago, when I was visiting him at the hospital after heart surgery, the current sixty-something GD teacher told me he was instructed by our ward sunday school president that I was not to be asked to substitute teach the class.

Accept that people are not perfect and hope that they learn from their own imperfections. Don't take it personal and make your feelings known to those concerned. And don't use it as an excuse to think badly of the entire church.

Maybe he was becoming too sure of himself and maybe a little flippant with what was in the manual. And maybe his hostility was coming out as was the case on MAD. If so, no excuse to blacklist him. But rather have a talk with him.
