Thank you for clarifying the fact that you were not attacking David personally.

Sigh of relief.

But really, I like David well enough and wouldn't try to offend him personally if we sat down to have lunch and talk about the Book of Abraham. I'm just stating my true feelings about how I feel about the overall picture. David is a nice guy and I think Brant is too. I don't think I've ever railed on either of them personally (I hope I haven't) but it gets me how such wonderfully intelligent people can continue in their scholarly persuits and sweep Facismile No. 3 under the rug. I can only imagine how it's a thorn in their side or something they wish wasn't part of the Mormon revelations. It's quite troublsome. It was my biggest pet peave, as you know.

Luv ya, Liz.

Yes, Nellie. I just put it in my new revision.

Congrats to you, my brother from another mother.

I was heavy into apologetics during the 1980's and maybe a wee bit into the 90's, but it tapered off during that time.

I even taught an institute class on "Defending the Faith" with a curriculum entirely of my own making. This was during my last semester of law school in 1989.

Although I found apologetics engaging at first, it became hackneyed to me as it is just recycling the same arguments over and over.

It also came to seem more of a game to me than anything else--you memorize the standard answers and associated scriptures, maybe add a few arguments yourself, but where do you go from there?

Worse, the standard apologetic answers were expected to be championed even if they didn't really seem personally persuasive. It became more of a debate club than anything else, with the pursuit of truth frequently falling by the wayside on the quest to rhetorical victory.

But for me, apologetics was a launching pad that allowed me to transcend many of the "standard answers" and start looking for answers that are personally persuasive and satisfying.

My mind is more open now and I find I can read with new eyes.

And the search for truth is much more exciting than sitting back on the same stale answers.

As much as anything else, my experience has led me to believe that God does not know eveything or he would have blown his brains out long ago.

All the Best!

There's really no use pretending anymore that the Left is about "emancipation" from anything but liberty and morality, and without morality, liberty is moot.

Just fine, so long as they're actually LDS apologists and not LDS intellectuals seeking their place in the fashionable intellectual and political sun by genuflecting the Dialogue and Sunstone culture that has toxified the LDS intellectual world to some extent and sent it rhizomes into the apologetic movement itself.

Thanks for correcting the typos I missed as I rattled that off and ran outside to work on my pool without having checked it first. I don't like your correction to the second paragraph. Mine is better.

This will be the last time in my mortal existence I bother responding to any of your adolescent provocations, so relish my attention now.

I hated High School.

Droopy, I have absolutely no doubt that what you have produced on this board is the best and highest of which you are capable. And that makes both Jesus and Charles Darwin cry.

I also have absolutely no doubt that you have unresolved issues from high school that you are still taking out on the world.

Now, take the word "ass," combine it with the word "hole," mix it with a little sugar and spice and everything nice ('cause the Candyman can), get yourself a spoonful of sugar (to help the medicine go down), and go back to the land of Trolls from whence you came.

You know why I deleted it? Because I'm just not really down at your level. I'm really not. The temptation got the better of me, for the moment, but I thought better of it a minute later.

Unlike you, Johnnie, I actually have both an intellect and a conscience. And that got the better of me the longer I thought about it (and it didn't take very long).

Have a good life burrowing under the roots, Johnnie, and watch the slime trail.

Its rude not to clean up after yourself.
