I think those supporters are rapidly shrinking in numbers.
From what I've read on various forums, Peterson is not nearly as highly thought of as he used to be. Most seem to be almost making fun of him now. He has quite simply made a fool of himself one (or more) too many times and very publicly.

I thought it was at least a little funny, and I'm an engineer geek myself. I like me just fine--for the most part.

Keep in mind that Daniel Peterson does frequently poke fun at himself.
The only time Ambrose "pokes fun" at himself is when he is using himself to construct a straw man out of a valid criticism. He NEVER really pokes fun at himself.

Except when he poses for a picture of himself eating Krispy Kreme doughnuts (which he doesn't even like).
That's General Leo. He could be my friend if he weren't my enemy. eritis sicut dii I support NCMO

If Dan was on Twitter, Dan would be following himself.
I'd say something but I've been known to "like" my own comments on Facebook (ask some of my MDB Facebook friends to corroborate).
Whatever appears to be against the Book of Mormon is going to be overturned at some time in the future. So we can be pretty open minded.-charity 3/7/07

Madison, Daniel Peterson truly is the Willy Loman of Mopologetics.
It's been sad and a little disappointing for me to watch Daniel Peterson's reputation as both a scholar and an apologist slowly whittle away as the years go by. So much potential for good in the Church squandered by pride, anger and ego.
"I'm on paid sabbatical from BYU in exchange for my promise to use this time to finish two books."
Buying lunch at a sushi bar(his choice) for John Dehlin in logan several years ago, John was receiving phone calls right and left from cnn, abc, fox on the helen whitney pbs piece "The Mormons'. John at that time had "come back" to the church telling me , it was the best place to raise his kids even though he admitted he had shelved issues and he would tell his kids the truth about Mormon history/doctrine when the time came. he was beginning a phd psychology course of study at the time at usu. he had also turned over the Mormon stories podcasts to someone else. Interestingly he told me had none of the suits in slc/cob harassing/pressuring him on his public visibilty or statements. he said he had a tr. Years have passed and he has cranked up the Mormons stories again, probably experienced 2nd thoughts about his life in the LDS church and perhaps has exprienced a little grief from the ecclesiastical ldrs.
and now he has DCP on his case-btw how dan could come up with and write 100 pages on john dehlin's life and times is beyond me! John will survive but probably not as a member of the LDS church-just my guess!

This sums it up nicely. So true. He let himself get out of control so many times (on here and in other public forums) and behaved in a very Un-Christlike, embarrassing manner. There are apologists who disagree with others and respond with poise and class....but that's not Peterson's style unfortunately. This has cost him dearly as far as remaining a respected defender of Mormonism.

In talking with John (at one of his conferences), he told a number of us in attendance that he realized when his kids started into the youth programs (YMs and YWs) that he couldn't continue supporting the things being taught to his kids. The church can be great when you have small kids, but teenage years are tough when you read some of the lesson material for these age groups.

Hang on a moment. "Cost him dearly" among which group? I can't imagine that his core audience has lost any of its respect for him. Is he any different from what they found appealing about him in the first place?
"Finally, for your rather strange idea that miracles are somehow linked to the amount of gay sexual gratification that is taking place would require that primitive Christianity was launched by gay sex, would it not?"
Any chance this attack on Dehlin is part of a planned Mitt strategy? John Dehlin is one of the people the world media would be turning to for Mormon information secondary to the Coming of Mitt.
