I requested from IRR whether i could use a quote from a Genral Authority on a greeting card i had designed-answer "living general authorities cannot be quoted for commercial purposes" so i asked if i could use prez gbh's famous "Be kind be nice be pure etc" saying on a greeting card i would like to sell-answer NO!
anyone know the rules on using GA's quotes etc-seem like for a fee they would allow anything, but given correlation, i guess they don't want a BY quote about blood atonement on a bookmark for youth.
comments?
When can a general authority be quoted?

Re: When can a general authority be quoted?
If you intend on adding to the quote that it is from GBH, it is obvious.
Only the Lord'$ book$tore is allowed to use name recognition to fleece the sheep.
By adding a flower ~President Gordon B. Hinkley to your card, you could potentially sell more to the Mormon masses. Sorry but LDS Inc owns the copyright on his namesake.
Really no different than quoting another famous person on a product.

In the case of BY they can't own the copyright on the namesake. There is surely a limit to how many years a copyright on a namesake can be effective after a persons death. But then that is irrelevant as you should irregardless of whether it is legal or not follow their counsel on the subject ~_-
