I have a question about this. When the Mouthpiece of God in the Heavens above us proclaims that a gay person is not to act upon their inclinations, does that mean *any* act?

All sexual acts of the mind and body outside heterosexual marriage. Same as for any man or woman. But the implication of the doctrine is that homosexuality itself is sin, acts or not.

What do you mean homosexuality itself is a sin? Hinckley said homosexuals are allowed in the church.
We love and honor (homosexuals) as sons and daughters of God. They are welcome in the church. It is expected, however, that they follow the same God-given rules of conduct that apply to everyone else, whether single or married

That has been interpreted as homosexuals are allowed in the church as long as they don't act on it. I was in a ward in the Seattle area that had a couple flaming gays. They used to be a gay couple. They joined the church together and the understanding was they are now just friends and are both living celibate lives. But they are homosexuals and nobody was trying to turn them straight. They each held priesthood callings and were members in good standing as far as I could tell. Of course, this was during the Hinckley era in the mid-2000s, before Prop 8, so the church may be hardening (no pun intended) it's position on homosexuals.

At least he got that out of the way BEFORE you married him. Geez.

Yeah. TG. Never under those conditions.

He was honest and honorable about it.

I understand that he later married. I thought---OK. The person who mentioned that had no idea.

Could we get the OCP on that?

President Gordon B. Hinckley said:

People inquire about our position on those who consider themselves so-called gays and lesbians. My response is that we love them as sons and daughters of God. They may have certain inclinations which are powerful and which may be difficult to control. Most people have inclinations of one kind or another at various times. If they do not act upon these inclinations, then they can go forward as do all other members of the Church.

Someday this quote will prove a terrible embarrassment for the Church as do some of the quotes by Brigham Young and other Church Presidents. It simply reeks with prejuduce and total ignorance. Look here:

1. "So-called gays and lesbians" -- Yep, that is what they are called. But Hinckley puts a derogatory tone in his answer. Compare it by saying: So-called African Americans"

2. "We love them as sons and daughters of God" -- Here we see that it's nothing but an obligation to love the so-called gays and lesbians because they too happen to be God's children, hence, they must love them for that reason. Never mind they are just people, some of which are wonderful people who deserve being loved with or without a God existing in yonder heaven.

3. "May have certain inclinations" -- What do you mean, "may"? You silly fool, those sexual orientation feelings are not a maybe. They are powerful and all consuming. So don't say, "may have". That belittles the potency of sexual orientation experienced by gays and lesbians. How insulting!

4. "May be difficult to control" -- What do you mean, may be"? Those inclinations are powerful. And, why should they be controlled? For religious purposes kept in a petri dish or test tube? Hell no, sexual expression is best expressed in a natural way. Don't take a gay man and make him marry a woman. That's not healthy or right.

So, gays can "go foward" if they do not act on the natural instincts of their true sexual orientation. And all that to join a cult, not masturbate, pay money to the brethren, and starve their lives of true happiness and fulfillment. What a crock of crap! Mormon Church Presidents are the MOST uninspired and stupid people on the planet. They are not prophets, they see nothing in the future (seers), and their revelations are nothing new. They are church men in business suits collecting checks to live off the fat of the people.
