Will must have seen all this by now. What's holding him back from commenting, I wonder?

Is it true that Nibley is Schryver’s biological father?
I do not know Schryver, nor have I ever had contact with him. With that being said, I sent the link to this post to Boyd Peterson, Hugh Nibley's biographer. I asked Boyd if he had any idea if this post and following comments have any truth to them or is it all horrible gossip. Boyd is also Nibley's son-in-law, so not only is he the most knowledgeable person on Nibley's life he also has the advantage of being an intimate family member.
Boyd made it perfectly clear that Nibley is not the biological father of Schryver, nor does he have children outside of his marriage. To be honest, Boyd only confirmed what I all ready believed. From my experience with Nibley and after reading Boyd's excellent biography, this would be so out of character with the man, that to suggest such a thing is ridiculous.
This kind of rumor reminds me of the rumors that circulated about Gordon Hinckley participating in orgies. When this was told by Ed Decker, Sandra Tanner came out publicly saying how crazy the idea was and cut-off all connection with Decker. Misguided rumors were also spread about Paul Toscano when he was excommunicated, some even spread by an apostle.
It seems we Mormons have a knack for doing this kind of thing. Even though I do not respect Nibley's scholarship on the Book of Abraham and such subjects, I respect him as a good and decent person. He was always kind and friendly with me when I was a young punk BYU-student. His name really deserves better than this kind of thing.

This is why I think Tabitha should pursue this obviously very important research. Without spaced-out conspiracy theories like this, it just wouldn't be any fun criticizing any church.

Thank you. I know his reputation, but I wonder why Mr. Schryver would make these comments, even in jest. As an outside observer, I was left with the impression that Mr. Schryver wanted to lead readers like myself to this conclusion, without being direct.

Will says many things in jest--things he sometimes even appears to regret although he generally doesn't outright admit it.

Knowing will, that seems very likely.

I don't believe it. It doesn't matter, but I call BS.
I think he's having just as much fun with these rumors as he would if they were actually true.

He probably does not wish to interrupt the pleasure he gets from this thread. He's probably laughing so hard that his friends will wonder if this was an attempt to assassinate him through joke warfare.

Funny that Will Schryver, LDS apologist, never considered that when he hinted at it repeatedly.

Watch me not consider the implications when I hint at this: I may or may not be the bastard child of Alice - the one who visited Wonderland - and her estranged husband Beetle Bailey.
