Why are you out of the church, then?

I could speculate on why he isn't active, but I'm not that big of a douchebag.

I was just a normal 22 year old guy in NYC. Plenty of skin to look at. For any guy on this forum to tell me that they never looked at a women's bottom wearing tight jeans when they were 22 is a liar. Also, if she was wearing a revealing blouse, he just looked at her eyes as she walked by is a liar.

A 22 year old guy is a 22 year old guy.

LOL. Well, you learn pretty quickly not to be obvious when you check them out. Maybe a 22 year old still stares at a girls tits when he talks to her, but he will eventually learn. Even when you're 40 you might slip up. It's a natural instinct. The point is, the appropriate behavior is to look them in the eye. I think the point everyone is trying to make is men are sexually attracted to beautiful women, regardless of how tight her turtle neck is. When men act like pigs around women, it is the man that needs to change his behavior. If the girl puts on another layer of clothing, the crude guys will still act like pigs around her. I understand that 22 year old college boys like to ogle women and might act crudely around them. I just disagree with you on whose fault that is.

I have some early 20th century fashion photos that would make Susan blush.

Who are the strange guys making this claim?

I realize subtlety eludes you, but maybe the point people are trying to make is that leering is something civilized men learn to control just as we learn not to pass gas whenever we feel like it. Furthermore it is the men's duty to control their thoughts, not the women's responsibility that some men ogle her.

Everybody looks, but yes, you have to control yourself. I went overboard as a young man, but my sexual naïvété at 22 had nothing to do with my leaving at 40.

. . . I have another matter that weighs upon my mind . . . with respect to the women, and more particularly with regard to the manner in which they dress. Never, perhaps, at least within the period of my life--and I have lived in the world nearly seventy-five years--never, I say within the period of my life and experience have I seen such obscene, uncleanly, impure, and suggestive fashions of women's dress as I see today. Some of them are abominable. I lift my voice against these audacious practices and these infamous fashions . . . (Joseph F. Smith, October Conference, 1913, Life of Joseph F. Smith, p. 405).

Was Joseph fielding Smith referring to the infamous Sears Catalog fashions making their way into the homes of the saints?

I wonder if he may have been referring to the transition toward less restrictive clothing.
