I don't understand, really.

What is Your problem with low cut blouse?

And as you've explained, only certain, special Church publications are doctrine. Thank heavens you're around to tell us which ones they are.

Is a summer dress like this immodest/too revealing? Liable to make you fixate on breast, buttock, or leg?

[] yes
[] no

If you answered yes, then the problem is with you.

It certainly can be a looker depending on who is wearing it. And nothing wrong with that. A woman's beauty should be admired.
I intend to lay a foundation that will revolutionize the whole world.

LOL. Well, you learn pretty quickly not to be obvious when you check them out. Maybe a 22 year old still stares at a girls tits when he talks to her, but he will eventually learn. Even when you're 40 you might slip up. It's a natural instinct. The point is, the appropriate behavior is to look them in the eye.

It is not a question of staring when talking to her. It is a question of noticing her when she walks by. Young men have sex on the brain and it doesn't take much to elicit the imagination. There are plenty of styles out there that are modest and yet attractive. The feelings that should be elicited are attraction and not lust.

Is there anything an attractive young woman could wear that would prevent you from leering at her? I think not.

bcspace wrote:I think most of you forget the differences between men and women and the different laws of attraction they have to live by. Sure there's extreme ends each way but that's all you seem to be addressing rather than admitting you fear to acknowledge the truthfulness of these principles.

I know I've been frank, but this is the kind of dress I am seeing on this campus, and it shouldn't be here. When a young man walks into a movie that's inappropriate, he can get up and leave. When he sees something unsuitable on the television channel, he can change the channel or turn off the TV. But when he has to sit behind or by the side of a young woman who is dressed immodestly in a class, there isn't a whole lot he can do. And a young man on this campus shouldn't have to "hum his favorite hymn" all day to chase out thoughts that he didn't intentionally invite, especially on a campus where we have all agreed that we will obey an honor and dress code by being chaste and virtuous and adhering to the guidelines in the pamphlet For the Strength of Youth.

Amen.

And the blaming of women for male sex drive continues. The answer isn't to demonize women for being attractive. The answer is to advise college men to rub one out in the shower. That way they won't be so horny all the time.

It's amazing that he defaults to this no matter what the situation is. If I recall, no one claimed that it was an official doctrine...rather, that it was a message being sent. He can't honestly deny that this message is being sent to young women in the church, so he spams us with "it's not doctrine."

BCSpace, I have a challenge for you. Please find me a talk (doesn't have to be doctrinal) that is geared towards MALES ONLY that discusses specific body parts they need to cover up and that if they cause a female to think *those thoughts* that it is essentially his fault. No, talks about grooming and baggy/sloppy clothes do not count. I want one that is the male version of this talk. It needs to speak to body parts that lead women to have lustful/vulgar thoughts and speech. It needs to tell men that it is their responsibility to keep the thoughts of these women pure.

I'd love to see it.

What I don't understand is why a bare shoulder is "immodest." Strapless gowns have been worn for decades, and I can't imagine too many people get all that aroused by a bare shoulder.
