It doesn't hurt my feelings. I think it's funny in a sad sort of way.
Is Scott Lloyd still employed by the Church in the capacity of glorified blogger?
I think he's still at the Church News. I haven't read it in a long time, so I don't know.
These two gents could not be more different in their roles in the grinding machine of Mopologetics, yet on a personal level, they are similar.
Scott “Scotty Dawg” Lloyd is your ideal Mormon bureaucrat who thrives in the LDS corporate structure. He is involved in a lot of “Pro-Mormon” projects, not much as a contributor to mopologetic material as much as acting as an able administrator. His connections at Dez-Newz and history have endowed him with ideal middle manager skills, that is his unique contribution to Mopologia.
Outside of paper pushing, he is a rather uncreative and boring fellow. He’s a walking cliché with weak ideas backed up with a lot of verbal gas that erupts to the surface every now and again. Insecure, unhappy, with a dose of unwarranted expectations, he is just your average internet Mormon who gets his self-esteem kick rubbing elbows with Mopologetic elites and tying to Trump Antis when the odds are good.
Wade is more of a tragic figure, he doesn’t have the professional skills that are needed by the mopologetic machine, lacks a career that usually gives Mormon men the needed social capital to climb the ecclesiastical ladder, and most likely suffers from some kind of undiagnosed learning disorder that will always prevent him from making solid mopologetic contributions.
“Scotty Dawg” is more of a fake, he uses the Church to fulfill personal needs that are critical to his self esteem. Wade needs the Church, it provides him with a frame work that probably makes life bearable for him, gives him the answers he needs to hear, and provides some kind of social setting for him to feel welcomed at.
“Scotty Dawg” is more like the constant whine of a bad engine, never really falters and is totally consistent. Wade drifts from idea to idea, trying different things out and looking for a project to throw himself into, he wants fellowship where “Scotty Dawg” desires more of the thin veneer of respectability that comes with executive positions.
As other people have pointed out, they both have a bad case of the arrogant, where they like to pronounce judgments on others as a favored tactic, instead of getting into the nitty gritty of things. This is what makes them appear so similar, yet to me, they could hardly be more different.
Dean Robbers made an analysis of Wade some time ago that should be posted:
Gadianton wrote:So what is special about Wade? As far as I can tell, Wade has absolutely nothing at all to gain from either being a Mormon or an apologist. The Church to my reading has been a lifelong burden, and it seems like the rougher he has it, the more bull-headed he bounces back as a defender of the faith. He has no standing in the Mopologist community, he's steered clear of marriage and traditional Mormon life, he has no well-defined gospel hobbies that he sticks with; even if he's dabbled in several fields of Mopologetic study, there's no center of gravity to his work that I can find. He's sensitive, but he's accepted being a loner so even if he gets offended he'll head out in his canoe and work on his next thing. The good non-board aspects of his situation is that he's done a lot of charity and volunteer work and deserves some credit here, though this even shows a tendency to self-sacrifice or work hard for small rewards that don't glorify him. I leave it for the reader to decide the extent to which he (offline) is Christlike or self-loathing, but either way it doesn't change the fact that there is nothing I can think of that could cause him to leave the Church. I can imagine him being ex'd, but if he were, he'd be right back in a Mormon church somewhere the next Sunday trying to work out the terms of his rebaptism.
Speaking of apologists, I just figured out why Yahoo Bot is on the outs with the apologetic elite. He's a Meldrum disciple. Probably everyone else already knew that.

In fairness to Wade, he seems to be trying to tone down the arrogance lately. He's still pretty douchey, but it's obvious he's making an effort. Kudos.

Scott Lloyd has been the author of many Church News editorials over the years. You know, those anonymous journalistic masterpieces that appear on the back page of the church's weekly tabloid.
He's got the "inside track" to stories from the LDS Politburo.

Think of this way: How would you feel if you spent your entire career writing vacuous platitudes disguised as editorials and heartwarming LDS human-interest stories? To me, that would be pure hell. Maybe that's what I'm destined to do in the telestial kingdom.

I think it would be a good exercise for you to do a send up of a Church News editorial. Get yourself a little taste of hell. It might even work as an inoculation.
