No other thread to link, the short of it is, Jeremy is trying to get links to his stuff removed from here, because he doesn't like us talking about his terrible ideas. So, to spite his little whisper campaign, I made a thread!

Has everyone seen "First Temple Floorplan As Anthropomorphic Divinity?" yet? It's a hoot.

I'm confused.

A (from what I can tell) friendly guy who posts on the Mormon Dialogue board is suddenly mocked and ridiculed for talking about what he believes in, and for creating artwork and posting it onto art websites?

What is so bad about Mr. Smith? Why do a few of you take such delight in belittling someone? Is it because he posts on the Mormon Dialogue board and is therefore automatically a target for ridicule?

I encourage compassion. We may not agree on politics, we may hold to different religious or philosophical views, and we may lead very different lives, but we are all human. There are things I like to do that MrStakhanovite might not, and there are things MrStakhanovite might take pleasure in that I do not. So what? With very few exceptions, we all deserve to be treated with dignity.

So he's registered here under a pseudonym?

I like that one. If I were registered over there, I would have proposed that temples are really transformers in disguise waiting for their day of reckoning.

At least his views are animated and fecund, growing out of the rich loam of early Mormonism and entangling with the tendrils of other beliefs, traditions and myths.

If I had written this, I would be immediately attacked mercilessly for thesaurus mongering, unnecessarily flowery prose and uses of "big words" that reek of condescension and intellectual snobbery.

Interesting how these double standards work (and, by the way, "animated" views that are "fecund" and which grow "our of the rich loam of early Mormonism" and which are "entangling with the tendrils of other beliefs, traditions, and myths" is pretty good stuff, Blix. All of this, however, rather papers over the naked fact that Jeremy is a liberal cultural Mormon intellectual who, like Joanna Brooks, is doctrinally and philosophically orbiting on the outer fringes of the gospel and Church. His is the church of the "big tent" while mine is that of the "straight and narrow" way, and hence, we don't get along philosophically. I sincerely hope he doesn't fully lose touch with the gravitational pull of the iron rod and the Brethren, while in that eccentric orbit).

I read it. Your teenage angst notwithstanding, why do you believe it contributes to the greater good to tear down others who have done nothing but talk about their personal beliefs and display their personal artwork?

The problem with you Droopy is not your use of big words. It is the narrow range of your interests and your boring redundancy. There are only so many ways one can say, "I am a regressive conservative Mormon nut job who thinks almost everyone does not measure up to my level of doctrinal and political purity," before one becomes a human emetic at the keyboard.

You, sir, reached that point a long, long time ago.

Still, you aren't completely without redeeming qualities. I have a tiny spark of sympathy for you as someone who is, at the core, a decent human being. And, if being a vomit-inducing gasbag keeps you from erring further in your ways, I would rather have that than worse things.

Joseph Smith was a genius at combining ideas to form a synthesis. Following this lead seems very natural. Doesn't matter whether anyone here agrees or not to recognize the creative beauty of that third link Smith provided by Mr. Stakhanovite.

Mr. Orbe-Smith seems to have added Joseph Campbell's injunction to "follow your bliss" to Joseph Smith's assertion that "Man is that he might have joy."

Those two ideas go together well. If followed, we Mormons become both a prophetic and less rigid people.

by the way, I love the way Blixa writes. Something animated and fecund growing out of rich loam and entangling with tendrils connects early Mormonism and Audrey II in a delightful way.
