Perhaps he failed to listen to the promptings of the Spirit which earlier urged him not to take the flock out. And because he disobeyed or failed to heed the voice of the Spirit, we see that God in his anger decided to destroy his flock by prompting the woman who harkened to the Spirit to crash into them.

Or something.

I'm more inclined to believe the story is a tall tale.
(Nevo, Jan 23) And the Melchizedek Priesthood may not have been restored until the summer of 1830, several months after the organization of the Church.

The Holy Ghost is often given credit when credit is not due. People are just living their lives and they credit every good idea or successful endeavor to the Holy Ghost blessing them. But what about when things go wrong? Does the Holy Ghost ever get any blame? He is always getting off the hook.

I have an idea. How about Heavenly Father release the Holy Ghost from his calling and call a woman in his stead. Maybe a lady-spirit could do a better job influencing men, especially if she appears topless.

Oh, I'm glad you asked. She had to cut him a break in the story. She explained that the sheep herding was a 3 mile trek, and he did not hit fog until he was 1 mile into it and so kept on with it. Doesn't explain why he didn't get them off the road until the fog lifted, does it? (She wanted to cut him a break in the story because the lady herself was a farmer/rancher, and heaven forbid her story might besmirch the 'salt of the earth'.)

I know independently of the accident having happened, pretty much as she told it--except the HG part, of course.

The Mormon Holy Ghost is always screwing up. I know someone who was called by the bishop to become a youth leader which would require attending youth meetings during the week. The bishop said he was inspired by the Spirit and extended the calling in the name of Jesus Christ. The person countered back and said they work on youth nights and can't take the calling. The bishop recoiled and withdrew the offer.

That's the power of the Mormon Holy Ghost at work, boys & girls.
