Harmony,
Very interesting OP. You must have some daughter there.
I have a son in law who spends a wholly inordinate amount of time on video games. He wastes (IMHO) a lot of time and money on this "hobby". He plays on the web and even writes posts on Facebook about his video game "adventures".
I find this very disconcerting. DD says he is a good husband and father and so I don't say anything, but certainly hope that my grandkids don'e pick up the habit.
I will never (ever) understand how video games can be any kind of reasonable substitute for a loving relationship with an appropriate person of the opposite sex.
Nonetheless, I know that there are lots young men (and perhaps not so young men) out there who are foregoing the growth and maturity that comes from getting up from the game console and doing something useful and productive with their discretionary time.
(There are no video games in our home - none.)

That is great that she has such support from the SP. Good for her.
I was once contacted to revive a nearly dead Stake athletics program. When the Stake High Council guy came to me with the calling, I turned the tables and basically interviewed him. I had a list of conditions that had to be met before I would accept. Some of these were - the wards paid non-refundable entry fees to participate in the various sports, paid officials, purchasing quality equipment, uniforms, renting quality facilities, having my own budget, etc. The High Council guy was stunned, and then went into shock when I told him my conditions were non-negotiable and perhaps he should go back and pray with the SP to be sure I was the right person for the calling.
Two weeks later I accepted the calling after they came back having met my conditions. Soon afterwards we had the best athletic program that Stake had ever seen. So successful that my Bishop petitioned the SP to have me returned to the ward level in the YM program. He thought that perhaps I could work my magic there as well. That didn't go over quite as well when I mentioned in a correlation meeting that it appeared to me that the YM in our ward (and the church in general) appeared to lack the maturity level of the kids I knew outside of the church. I suggested that perhaps instead of separating the YM and YW so much we should encourage MORE interaction between the two with the hope of building more comfort, confidence, and maturity in both. My idea was shot down. Perhaps that is one reason why these YM are now YA romantically involved with their video games. In another meeting, after it was revealed that a second YW in the ward had become pregnant, I suggested that perhaps besides encouraging abstinence, we also mention protection and birth control. The looks I got...WOW...you would have thought I was growing a third eye out of my forehead. I guess pregnancy was preferred over prevention. I wasn't in the YM program very long.
Good luck to your daughter. I sense she will have some fun tweaking the program.

And death is preferred before rape.

Well, if they don't do it her way, she won't do it. So we'll see.
(Nevo, Jan 23) And the Melchizedek Priesthood may not have been restored until the summer of 1830, several months after the organization of the Church.
