God, I was so scared every night as a child. I would get under my covers and hope that my blanket was impermeable by the boogie man, demons and ghosties residing under my bed.
Whenever my kids talk about ghosts and things of that nature I mention that they are just pretend and don't exist. They still believe in the devil and crap, though. This might take a while.

Enter Sandman The Mormon beasts are all in your head. Satan, hell? Yeah, whatever.
Now Hades, he's real. All souls will pass through Hades, even Mormons. Beware Mormons, Hades is an anti-Mormon.

Oh my sweet precious. What demons and monsters will be lurking in your bedroom tonight as you attempt to sleep -- as you willingly forget to thank your Jesus for your blessings? Check under the bed, my little pretty. Check in the closet, too. I'm the devil and I'm watching you. Can you feel the cold hand crawling up from the side of the bed reaching into your covers!
I want you to look into the mirror and see me. I'll be in your room tonight while you try to sleep that I might lick you. Only Jesus can cast me out. I'm not afraid of any other power. So, you better call on Jesus if you wish to expell me.
