Is it porn if you don't get to see the naughty bits?
Actually I was not discussing the whole "Red Shoe Diaries" sort of stuff. One can be quite explicit but still have romance. There is even a genre known as feminist porn.

I disagree. One reason why couples who live together get divorced rather quickly after marriage is because marriage is a game changer. And a part of the game change is in the bedroom because sex is now 'legal'. But there are other reasons too. It is hard to navigate the certificate after living together for years.

I intend to lay a foundation that will revolutionize the whole world. Joseph Smith We are “to feed the hungry, to clothe the naked, to provide for the widow, to dry up the tear of the orphan, to comfort the afflicted, whether in this church, or in any other, or in no church at all…” Joseph Smith

I know a great deal about it. I must admit that the porn threads on this forum have been amateurish. In the 1970's, feminists would be marching down broadway through times square attempting to shut down the porn emporiums. But when the vhs came out, the feminists lost the fight. And the porn industry was on the cutting edge of the VHS industry. It spread into the home, hooking many guys to porn and made the porn industry billions. And then came the dvd cassettes. Easier to hide and easier to carry around hooking more people to the industry.
All in all, the porn industry is not the greatest industry. Highly exploitive of both men and women.

All this talk of masturbation and "impure and unholy" acts in the church is the pharisee syndrome in action. For some reason human beings have this tendency to create more and more rules and then more regulations to protect the rules. The law of chastity is about people making covenants to love and serve each other and take care of children, it's not about orgasms or Kama Sutra.
My marriage was mildly messed up in the beginning because of the church and the pharisee teachings about sex. My utilitarian nature and her discussions with her doctor helped us realize that we are NORMAL. After having sex a 1,000 times and connecting the dots I came to the realization that the church has been full of crap on human sexuality. I do love and accept the concept of marriage covenants because it's about love and I believe in love but half the church's teachings on chastity are unhealthy.
We have no problems with sex, we have no hangups but in order to reach that point we had to realize that the church is wrong. My wife and I did watch a few porno's together some years back. We talked about it with a bishop. That was STUPID! My wife and I both regret that equally as much as we regret ever telling priesthood leaders about masturbating. STUPID, STUPID, STUPID! I generally agree with the church on the pornography issue. I think porn should be avoided but it's not the most evil thing ever like Mormon culture makes it out to be.

This is because you have no idea what goes on behind the scenes. Watching it is different from doing it. The guys are taking the blue pill and the women are required to do all sorts of crazy things. In the end, no one feels good about it.
Now of course, there are a few porn companies that do soft hardcore porn where sex between the couples are done with respect and with some sort of dignity but in general, the porn industry is about a high turnover of women and cares very little about the person.

I was suggesting that the user is not necessarily a total pervert and is now going to become a sex offender. A lot of Mormons seem to think that if you have seen people having sex on TV then you are a terrible person.
I have no doubt that the porn industry is like that to a large degree. It's probably why I don't like most porn. The women are all obviously faking it. It's not sexy.

I'm curious as to why this always seems to be brought up by anti-porn crusaders. I have no doubt that porn is produced in a grisly industry and that women (and men) are harmed by it.
But the same could be said of so many products we consume, from the food on our plates to the phones in our pockets. Why do I never hear from Mormons about the deplorable working conditions in which so many of their other consumer goods are produced?
Just admit that it's the end product you find offensive. Don't pretend that you care about the poor starlets of the San Fernando Valley while you are likely wearing shoes sewn by kids in a sweatshop in Bangladesh.
WTF is "soft hardcore porn?" I don't even wanna know...but srsly, it seems like an oxymoron.
