Re: The Romney bullying story really bugs me
Romney is not a gay basher, only a bully. I'm relieved!
I don't like bullies. When I was in Junior High, I was bulled by a number of older children. Mitt's half-hearted apology that his prank went "too far" is not very satisfying.
A few days ago, I watched the documentary Bully, which follows a number of bullied children and the family of one child who committed suicide due to incessant bullying. What if Romney's prank caused Lauber to commit suicide? Why should there be any difference, from a moral perspective, if Romney's bullying did not result in Lauber killing himself? Romney's act was the same.
I'm not suggesting that Romney should be jailed for attempted murder. I'm simply stating that Romney should not laughingly dismiss this incident from his past, particularly in light of the many recent reports of children killing themselves due to bullying.

This incident even if 100% true has next to no impact on how I view Romney politically. That it carries so much weight through media attention actually bothers me. That said, Romney's standard PRish not-pology was annoying.

Yeah, look what it did to Dubya.
OMG, just checked out that daily caller link. Wow, that place is certainly filled with nice people. They are spouting the drug use nonsense there as well. As to the story on the site regarding Romney's assault, errrr, "prank," so one of the people who talked about it wasn't there. So?

That looks like a right-wing rag. If the story is false, why is Mitt Romney going into spin mode? You would think he would simply deny a false story.

He also said he did not hear about it until the Post told him about it last year.

This is coming from ABC News, not Romney.

Re: The Romney bullying story really bugs me
Romney was of the LDS generation that thought it was acceptable to use violence against homosexuality.
From Packer's "To Young Men Only"
http://www.lds-mormon.com/only.shtml
I will never forget my former brother-in-law bragging about how he wrapped his companion, who, evidently, was obviously gay, in a shower curtain and beat him. He was proud of it, and proud that he didn't get in trouble for it.
Remember, this is the culture that, at this time period, tried to deal with homosexuality by shocking it out of young men at BYU. Literally.
From Packer's "To Young Men Only"
There are some men who entice young men to join them in these immoral acts. If you are ever approached to participate in anything like that, it is time to vigorously resist.
While I was in a mission on one occasion, a missionary said he had something to confess. I was very worried because he just could not get himself to tell me what he had done.
After patient encouragement he finally blurted out, "I hit my companion."
"Oh, is that all," I said in great relief.
"But I floored him," he said.
After learning a little more, my response was "Well, thanks. Somebody had to do it, and it wouldn't be well for a General Authority to solve the problem that way"
I am not recommending that course to you, but I am not omitting it. You must protect yourself.

We hate to seem like we don’t trust every nut with a story, but there’s evidence we can point to, and dance while shouting taunting phrases.

I'm old enough to know that we didn't normally even think of other people as gay in the early 70s. There may have been gays in my high school, but at the time it would never have crossed my mind that someone was gay.

If you didn't call them gay, what did you call them? Queer? Faggot?
