You're dodging the ball, pal. Bottom line is: Mormonism doesn't officially practice polygamy on earth because the federal government of the United States forced the church to cease the practice. The church had no choice other than to comply or force having the temples raided by the feds and church leaders tossed in jail for breaking the law.
But today, men can still be sealed to more than one wife just as they have been able to since the days of Joseph Smith. That's polygamy in heaven! How do you feel about polygamy in heaven?

Evangelicals have proven themselves to be significantly unenthused as a group with voting for him. They might not vote Obama, but he's got to work to prevent a good chunk of them not voting at all. Every few % who don't represent a decent blow to his election chances.Bond James Bond wrote:Why is Romney taking this social issue bait? He can probably win the Presidency by articulating two words, "the economy", and yet he's willing to take up this fight in order to nail down the conservative right that's going to vote for him anyway.
This is especially true of evangelical leaders who just don't vote, but also drum up donations and use their social organizational skills to turn out votes.

Oh, I see. Then, marriage is an earthly thing for you. In heaven they are not given in marriage. Everyone just has sex inspite of it.

Right.
He's speaking to people who have made the argument that legalizing gay marriage is a slippery slope that will lead to polygamy, as well.
He's being misleading.
We hate to seem like we don’t trust every nut with a story, but there’s evidence we can point to, and dance while shouting taunting phrases.

Nonsense. It's just 'milk before meat', like they taught him in the MTC.
And if anyone is misled, that is their own fault for not having given careful enough study to the material on the significance of sealing to successive marriage partners on the church's website. It's easy enough to find, after all.

Simple question.
The simpler answer is no. Marriage can't be one man and more than one wife.

Mormon scripture, historical practice, and current temple sealing policies appear to contradict your answer. Can you explain?

Is it really that hard to understand? The LDS Church was nearly legislated out of existence for its efforts to legitimize its own alternate sexual lifestyle, that church had to choose between extinction and embracing the Victorian value system, Woodruff led it on the road to barely surviving by embracing that value system, and now we Latter-day Saints are supposed to rejoice because another group of violators of that value system are on the verge of getting their lifestyle legitimized?
If we should follow the Victorian value system, then let's follow it. But if by legalizing gay marriage we're abandoning the Victorian value system, then let the United States government admit it was wrong to try to force that value system down the Mormons' throats back in the late 1800s.

There, see, Beastie said it was a simple question. You, Equality, are complicating it. Or perhaps it was complicated from the outset, and Beastie was wrong to assert it was a simple question.
I find myself leaning toward the second alternative. The assertion "marriage can be one man and more than one wife" seems simple, but in reality it depends on whether you're talking about marriage for this life or marriage in the eternities. In the former case the answer is, as I stated, no; in the latter case the answer is yes.

I'm not sure the argument is that the slippery slope will lead to polygamy, but rather that it should lead to polygamy. How in the world can someone argue that gay marriage is okay but polygamy is not?
