That is a lot of hate.
Church dances aren't a real big deal in Utah because the school dances serve the same purpose and 90% of the student body are LDS anyway. I think I attended 1 or 2 stake dances in all those years. The school put on about a dance per month. I made it a point to attend them all.
The schools put on "stomps" too. These are less formal dances where you don't bring a date so you can dance with different people.

Oh for shame, how the mortals put the blame on us gods, for they say evils come from us, but it is they, rather, who by their own recklessness win sorrow beyond what is given... Zeus (1178 BC)

We had at least one Stake Dance per month, when I was in High School...most of the time, 2. It was THE social event for Saturday nights.
Question is, did anyone have a holier than thou priesthood leader that went around sticking a Book of Mormon between couples to ensure the Lord approved?

Ha!
Didn't everyone?
Thank heavens the ones who did that in our Stake just weren't chaperones for every dance. When they were, we usually ended up taking our party to the foyer. LOL

Yes, cause today's methods of dancing, which is basically dry humping publicly to music, is more preferable. Oh wait, that's right. Most ex-Mormons abandon morality, so it's mostly anything goes!
