I would be extremely surprised if they knew that he was also extremely involved in hunting for UFOs and was an authority on the subject. His introduction in this clip could just as easily been him introducing his topic at a FAIR conference.

Yes, this is an interesting phenomenon, and one which I have commented upon a couple of times before. There does seem to be a fair number of apologists who are fascinated with UFOs, cryptozoology, and the occult. I guess Michael Quinn really screwed up by mixing such interests with his Mormon history, hence the vicious attacks and ridicule. There seems to be an unwritten rule against doing such things in Mopologetics. Sure, you can have interest in aliens, but the moment you speculate that Smith was in contact with them and then write a book about it... BAM! You're out.
