Well, you are a nice guy, and always behave politely and unaggressively. Good for you.

But some people would be severely tempted to respond to a 'critique' such as you describe (based on work not cited, and not now to be found even by the author) by blowing a loud raspberry.

How can a critique be asserted as: scholarly, relevant, or of any value when there is none of the support data?

Makes it impossible to critique Gee's data and methods as he advowedly has none.

Of course not. Why on earth would he? Gasp.

Naturally. Another missing text.

When and where does this cosmic hide the text game end?

It is possible that an angel came to Gee's office and borrowed the papers with his calculations on them. But that would be too sacred to talk about.

And - it bursts upon me - why the heck could this kind of thing never happen to me, or anyone I know?

Answer: because like every person doing research and writing under the age of (well, I won't say, too in real life), I do sums on Excel spreadsheets, or at least write down the results on Word documents. Filing 'papers' you are working on away and not being able to find them is something that might have happened before all this (now not very) new stuff came in. Not nowadays.

I rather think it is the case that the angel instructed Gee not to divulge the calculations to Chris lest he steal them, change them around, and try to make it look like Gee was wrong!

Well, it was a lame excuse, but with the words of the angel ringing in his ears, it is all he could come up with to get that evil and designing thief Chris off the trail of the sacred scroll calculations.

You definitely get closer to the authentic finger-lickin' flavor of Mormon excuse culture than my effort at parody managed to do.

OMFG

I typically go back and forth in feeling pity for and disgust with Dr. Gee. Now I just feel both. Please go away, Dr. Gee. It'll be better for you and me both.

I would put it this way:

For the love of God please cease your involvement in Book of Abraham apologetics, Dr. Gee. It would be better for everyone concerned.
