Message boards (this one in particular) are pretty democratic and populist. The double edged sword of freedom of information is that a lot of people aren't adequately grounded in background history and evidence. See Droopy and the drubbing he took on Vietnam.
Whatever appears to be against the Book of Mormon is going to be overturned at some time in the future. So we can be pretty open minded.-charity 3/7/07

I brush up on my grammar and spelling here. I also have a place to express my inner thoughts. Another one is brewing...

From a slightly different perspective, I find that discussion boards are a good way to find out how little I know.
"Any over-ritualized religion since the dawn of time can make its priests say yes, we know, it is rotten, and hard luck, but just do as we say, keep at the ritual, stick it out, give us your money and you'll end up with the angels in heaven for evermore."

I know that's why I love coming here. Always something new for me to learn and not just about Mormonism.

I've posted so many times, you might wonder that I have anything left to say at all. Funny thing is, I'm just getting started.
Also, I find so many people here absolutely fascinating.

Re: Are dicussion boards the best way to determine truth?
I find this board and other boards to be a good way of determining both sides of an argument. When people make claims and they back it up with references I can check those and it seems to me a good way to determine an opinion on the matter. Even though I have come to an opinion it may not be right and it could change as I see more evidence.
Is a discussion board a good way of determining truth?
The strength of an argument is not a bad way to go. Problem is, anti-Mormon criticism is full of holes.

Re: Are dicussion boards the best way to determine truth?
Provided there aren't draconian rules in place, discussion boards are a pretty darn good way to determine truth when compared to alternative methods people normally use like: reading the scriptures, praying, asking a trusted Elder or church leader, asking a family member, reading the newspaper, watching TV, or often times reading books. This especially goes for topics with no formal approach and/or controversial topics.
