No witness for me

Post by _zeezrom »

I often hear from Mormons of all flavors, including exmos that an experience occurred, which provided to them an assurance of something related to Mormonism. They may have prayed and felt a very powerful emotion, heard a wispering in the ear, felt the presence of the deceased, or saw something work so perfectly it had to be from God.

Well, whatever the sign was for this person, it was not meant for me. I consigned myself to a life of tittle by tittle, line upon line, and knowing that by small means, great things come to pass. I was comfortable never having a single big bang experience and it never stopped me from paying money to the church every week and spending countless hours in its service. I believed it all and would bear my testimony of the truthfullness of Joseph Smith and the whole thing.

So now I ask: Am I a different type of exmo than the exmo who once experienced a strong witness?

Yours truly,

Zee.

As you aptly describe it, count me as a no-witness ex-mo, too. The LDS Church will entice everyone to pay $, and to interpret anything at all to be a 'witness' from the HG of LDS Church's truth claims.

A strong witness? What I hear described as a 'strong witness' most of the time (such as on MST) sounds like a seizure, which the LDS Church encourages to be interpreted as a 'witness'.

A strong witness?

If JC himself appears unto me and I can see the holes in his palms, feet and sides, and then I can strongly show that I am note being duped by some other agent, or alien or some such. If I can absolutely attribute it to no other thing besides a supernatural god, then I will have a strong witness.

Failing that................... meh.

Can I get a witness?

HELL YA!

Some of us, on the other hand, actually prefer a religion that includes some type of correlation with reality.

I had a strong emotional witness about 12 years ago. Coincidentally it came at a time when I was emotionally unstable, with lots of low lows and high highs, and was also strongly associated with a girl I was crushing on at the time. But it was enough to convince me to buy in!

Mormonism might be for the bi-polar!

Are you married to the girl?
