Jews often poke fun at themselves, and Catholics also. We are so used to it that sometimes we allow ourselves to become punching-bags for anti-Catholicism.

And a lot of Mormons do the same. There are plenty within all these groups that are also quite sensitive to that ribbing. I don't think people should be so sensitive, but I understand why some are.

Again, Mormon hypersensitivity may be rooted in the extreme improbabilities in your religion. At least ours is so old it becomes difficult to research the improbabilities.

If they called it 'Five Pussies Vodka', I presume that would remove the cause of offense, and the name could remain as it now is.

But then would the artwork on the bottle be enough to induce the targeted clientele to buy?

With those cute pictures they would probably be accused of marketing to children.

After all, our wonderful Utah legislature banned flavored beverages such as "coolers" from grocery stores, on the flawed and unsupported assumption that they were aimed at teenage girls.

There are many who are not LDS who have acknowledged that bigotry toward Latter-day Saints seems to be completely and totally acceptable in American culture.

The Church's record of racism, sexism, and homophobia makes it ripe for criticism. I think most folks are probably able to make peace with the seeming hypocrisy of being 'bigoted' against bigots.

I don't get it, why is publicising a key doctrine of the Church cause for offence and embarrassment?

Polygamy was given as a commandment in a revelation to Joseph Smith.
Polygamy will be lived as a form of marriage in the Celestial Kingdom.
Polygamy, as a doctrinal expectation is only on hold for a spell until God decrees it to be lived again.

I do not get why it is offensive - anyone?

When the makers of Five Wives Vodka threatened a law suit, the State of Idaho backed down realizing that their decision would never withstand legal scrutiny. Looks like Romney will not be making any special stopovers in the Spud State. So it goes.
