Tobin: Don't get sick of trying to do all of the mental gymnastics necessary to make all the little pieces fit into the small, neat little box like it is supposed to?

I've had enough of that worm/troll. He is now on ignore and joins the list of fools.
Shove Facsimile No. 3 where the sun don't shine, Tobin. Your Mormon prophets (all of them) are liars and cheats.

Laugh it up fuzzball. Bible chronology is a lie! It's not just mistakes made by men but wholesale lies -- all 6,000 years worth. And your Facsimile No. 3 (which Joe Smith used as a sexual good luck charm when screwing little girls) is also a lie.
And, your Book of Mormon is good for toilet paper.
You're a pathetic worm.

I've directly addressed both your "issues" in the short time I've been on this forum and you know it, so what do you do? Repeat them like a broken record player and call me names. Well, if that is all you have left Paul, I feel sorry for you. I guess a reasonable discussion is too much to expect from you.

I am not aware that Kevin said demonstrating one claim as wrong means other claims are wrong. Now if most or all claims that are falsifiable are falsified then it is not realistic that the other non-falsifiable claims are correct.

That's a fair observation and remarkably cogent of you. As far as I know, that has not been done with the Bible however to such a degree that it can simply be dismissed as myth (or that other reasonable explanations for this have been exhausted).Themis wrote:I am not aware that Kevin said demonstrating one claim as wrong means other claims are wrong. Tobin wrote:... 95% of the population of the planet ... believe in a God.
krose wrote:Ignoring the silliness of an argument by popularity (after all, almost everyone once believed the world was flat and that the sun revolved around the Earth, which a huge number of people still believe is only 6000 years old, along with homo sapiens), where do you get this number of 95%?
The percentage even in the USA, one of the most overtly religious nations on the planet, is lower than that. Much of Western Europe is atheist. And what about China?
Tobin wrote:We've already discussed this on here. http://www.mormondiscussions.com/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=23527 In fact, 95% of Americans responded to an ABC poll that they believe in a God. http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-srv/politics/polls/wat/archive/wat042400.htm Also, it is interesting that you stated that belief in a God was like believing the world was flat. Yet, despite the remarkable advancement in science, literacy, and education over the past 300 years - the belief in a God is universally pervasive. It would seem that you are the only one engaging in fallacies and not knowing the facts (something you could easily have looked up on the internet if you could be bothered to educate yourself at all).
So I ask you about the claim regarding 95% of the world, and you respond with the statement about 95% of Americans (depending on the poll and how it's worded, the number is actually between 80% and 95%). That's called avoiding the question.
You also avoided the other issue. Sure, you seize on flat earth, but ignore other false beliefs that are still immensely popular. A significant majority of Americans still believe humans did not evolve. According to your logic, they must be right. Right?
The bit about theism holding up in spite of advancements in science comes from the fact that there is nothing science could ever do to disprove the existence of any god, so there is no relationship there. But the fact is that the gods people believe in have been shrinking in power and influence, to the point where existence and tinkering about in undetectable ways are just about all that's left for them.

If you are unwilling to read the links I supply, is there a point to discussing this with you any further?krose wrote:Tobin wrote:We've already discussed this on here. http://www.mormondiscussions.com/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=23527 In fact, 95% of Americans responded to an ABC poll that they believe in a God. http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-srv/politics/polls/wat/archive/wat042400.htm Also, it is interesting that you stated that belief in a God was like believing the world was flat. Wrong. You have yet to demonstrate that there is NO god.krose wrote:You also avoided the other issue. Sure, you seize on flat earth, but ignore other false beliefs that are still immensely popular. Wrong. I read the 12-year-old article that referenced the 15-year-old ABC poll. My favorite part was the statement that most believers have "always been believers" since birth. That doesn't indicate that much thought and reflection goes into the default belief.
I didn't read every post in the five-page "Heavenly Mother" thread that you linked. If you could point out the relevant posts, perhaps I will take a look.
But really, if you can't answer a few simple questions without handing out reading assignments, you have failed. It's a cop-out.

I try to read what a person says so I don't misrepresent what they say. You did this with me a number of times which is probably why you didn't understand my points.

I guess it depends on what claims the Bible makes that we can check. A number of them fall short. This thread began about the Book of Mormon, which fails miserably here.
