Conjoined Twins and LDS Marriage

Post by _kamenraider »

I just saw a video on youtube about conjoined twins named Abigail and Brittany Hensel. They share the same body but have two hearts and two heads. Abigail controls the arm on her side and Brittany controls the arm on the other side. Each feels sensation on only her side of their upper torso.

This got me to thinking, what would happen if they were LDS and wanted to get married in the temple? They probably wouldn't wind up marrying two different guys since they both share their lower torso. Would there be two different sealings to the same man? Would the Church be so polygaphobic that they would be denied permission to be married or sealed? It's an interesting question to ponder. What do you think would happen?

Plural marriage was made for this  . But threesomes are probably not allowed by Mormonism so...Catch 22?

I guess technically it would only be a two-and-a-halfsome though.

What do you think would happen?

With the plural marriage option, I'll bet it would be sanctioned by both the Church and the state. They may also prefer and be able to convince two men. I'd also wager the Church and state would be fine in that case too.

There are many videos of this pair. Here are two:

Absolutely not. The church would never allowed such a mockery of the LDS version of marriage.
(Nevo, Jan 23) And the Melchizedek Priesthood may not have been restored until the summer of 1830, several months after the organization of the Church.

I guess if they married two men then each would want to avoid the other half of the upper torso that belongs to twin that he is not married to. Although the lower half is connected to both, that would be unavoidable. That's why I don't think they would marry two guys - they each would probably get jealous or at least suspicious that the other was enjoying sex with their husband too much.

I still think the Church would honor their choice. That is what I would recommend to them. Theologically speaking though, one would have to consider the resurrection where ostensibly they would be separated. In the case of one man, who gets him and who gets to search for another? That is what I would counsel them to think about.

Without watching the available 45 minute documentary, this one seems to explain their condition best (3 lungs, 2 hearts, 1 small and 1 large intestine, 1 rudimentary central arm amputated in infancy, etc.):

Why couldn't they both get him in the resurrection?

I'm pondering why God would give us such a conundrum without providing clarity in either scripture or Church Handbooks....
