What Schryver and those who adhere to his idea that it is part of their moral duty to sniff out future apostates seem to be oblivious to is that their own actions become an inextricable part of the maze that leads up to apostasy. In other words, if a questioning or struggling member is treated differently due to Schryver's camp privately or not privately determining that member is a dangerous future apostate, then that may well become part of the life experience that actually does turn the struggling member into a dangerous apostate.

If, on the other hand, the struggling member is still accepted and treated kindly, the chances are less that the emotional break with the church may occur, and that emotional break is often a crucial piece of the apostasy background. Something happens that allows the member to actually ask the question: what if the church isn't true? in the first place. And that something is sometimes an emotional break from the church and its members.

So, in a very real way, Schryver and his camp are actually creating what they claim to simply 'sniff out' in the first place, and that is why they ought to be viewed as a danger by church leaders.
We hate to seem like we don’t trust every nut with a story, but there’s evidence we can point to, and dance while shouting taunting phrases.

A number of people have pointed this out, and it doesn't seem to faze the offenders or people like Daniel Peterson at all. I think some of the more reasonable fellow see it, but they aren't in a position to bring about real change.

Daniel is faced with the fact that should he finally accept that all of Joseph'S myth is made up BS, he must face the grim reality that he has nothing to show for his life's work.

Dan is more afraid at turning his back to his own life's work of defending the indefensible than turning his back against the LDS church. His ego is much stronger than his testimony.
