Because he's a man of integrity and principle. I genuinely admire the man.
Then he should take care to reflect this in his apologetic work. I don't see him doing it, and in particular when he takes on the beliefs of "traditional Christians". He misrepresents the beliefs of TC to the same extent that LDS complain their beliefs are misrepresented. He was nice to you, he is not nice to other people, period.
