Apparently I am perceiving the DCP situation wrong. According to harmony the vast majority of posters on this board are neutral or positive towards DCP and this situation. Likewise, I am guessing based on responses that DCP has harmed many posters in a very personal manner.
DCP is a LDS apologists. Unfortunately, in the eyes of many here, this in itself, says that he has hurt them. The vast majority on this board are far from neutral. The Scratch threads on DCP are a case in point.

I think it's unrealistic to expect there not to exist intense interest and fervor over the possible replacement of DCP as editor. I also think it's unrealistic to expect there not to be negative statements about DCP.
The fact is that this possible event is going to elicit a lot of attention in this particular part of the cyberworld. The fact is also that DCP, partly through his own high profile on the internet, has long been seen as somewhat representative of Mormon apologetics. He has also created a long history of being somewhat dismissive towards critics or even struggling members.
Having said all that, by most "real life" reports, DCP is a kind and decent man. I do hope that this event does not cause him undue pain or grief, particularly when he has a lot on his plate already. Maybe he can eventually see that removing one thing from that plate might be a good thing.

Unfortunately, it does seem that DCP has made a deliberate choice to show a different side of himself online. I am sure he is intelligent enough not to complain when people take the online DCP on his own terms.
