I had a cocktail with dinner.

Post by _lulu »

Actually I had two, it was 2 for 1 happy hour.

Did this impinge on bcspace's religious freedom?

bcspace will have to answer for himself, but I suspect he would be less offended if you had ordered two glasses of really good wine.
This, or any other post that I have made or will make in the future, is strictly my own opinion and consequently of little or no value.

The places I patronize aren't that classy.

I'll drink with you. I've been drinking bourbon on the rocks all afternoon.
I'm the apostate your bishop warned you about.

Higher standards cost more, I'll have to make do with my dives.

Well Jesus had at least 3 opportunities to share a glass of wine with friends and several times with his critics. At passover there were at least 3 cups of wine drunk in celebration- what a celebration !-one remembering freedom coming to his people. at the home of mary and martha and lazarus it was a time for teaching and sharing a meal with the usual wine. at the wedding feast in cana Jesus held a happy hour for everyone and paid the bar bill with a miracle. he too must have said after changing water into wine, not grape juice, "Umm that wine has a heavenly flavor" . at the home simon the leper, at mathews home, at zaccheus house and since he stayed in sychar in samaria for 2 days after his encounter with the woman at the well, Jesus had many opportunites to toast to the good things god has provided to the human race.

So have a drink or two to make your heart merry; as solomon says in ecclesiates what else does man have but food and song and drink, and the love of a woman to celebrate one's labors in this world.

Enjoy and forget the rigidity of the Mormons on this subject- they are full of it-not wine!

just sayin

I can remember frequenting some real dives in my college days (some scary ones... a wonder I survived). I once went into a cowboy bar in Wyoming with my 70's long hair. A couple of regular patrons offered to cut it for me with their Bowie knives. I understand booze on a budget.

I can't remember the last cocktail I ordered. I think it came with a small umbrella and sparklers.

In those days (and in days up to the recent past) wine and beer were the smart things to drink. The alcohol kills the pathogens. Water from the local well was often infected with all kinds of microbes from the open sewers. The healthier way to go.

There is a great documentary on NETFLIX called "How Beer Saved the World"
