re: magic
Donald Michael Kraig, in his seminal (and widely-used) Modern Magick in 12 Lessons, defines magick as that which effects a change in the world, in accordance with the will, through means that are not currently understood by mainstream science.
Hermeticism is one particular branch of magical ritual methods, related to Hermes-Thoth (a Greco/Egyptian hybrid cult). Masonic magic is primarily, though not exclusively, Hermetic. Mormon magic is, as far as I can tell, exclusively Hermetic; Joseph Smith did not teach any Kabbalistic or other non-Hermetic magic. However, the "seer stone" appears to have been local village sorcery and was not directly Hermetic.
Gnosticism was an early Christian heresy centered on the cult of secret knowledge. Mormon cosmology is deeply informed by Gnostic teaching, such as that Jesus is the literal son of a previously-existing deity (the "Demiurge"). There were many varieties of Gnosticism, all of which featured beliefs and practices from one or more pagan mystery cults. Hermes-Thoth was perhaps the most common.
In terms of set theory, Magic is a superset of Hermeticism. Not all Hermeticists were Gnostic, and not all Gnostics were Hermeticists, but most Gnostics were Hermeticists, while most Hermeticists were (at least from the centuries before Christ to the centuries after) not Gnostic, although some Hermeticists were Gnostic. Mormonism is a modern revival of Hermetic Gnosticism. Since the Masonic ritual system is deeper and more expansive than the Mormon system, but the Mormon system was lifted wholesale from the Masonic system, it is perhaps most accurate to regard Mormonism as a subset of Masonic magical ritual method. The "subset" area would be the intersection between the Hermetic set and the Gnostic "Christian" (quotes because it is a heresy outside the bounds of proper Christianity) set.
Hope this helps.

I understand your feelings: too much abuse. It really distracts from the points he tries to make.

Zadok:
I did not have a faith crisis. I discovered that the Church was having a truth crisis.
Maksutov:
That's the problem with this supernatural stuff, it doesn't really solve anything. It's a placeholder for ignorance.

Thank you.

What do you think your local leaders will have to say about you taking on this role?
Isn't it funny that this is the only thing which causes me even mild trepidation?
What should I say if a local leader criticizes me for taking this upon myself?
Should I say it is not meet that we should be commanded in all things?
Should I say it is of God and I dare not deny it lest I fall under condemnation?
Should I stamp my feet, plant my fists on my hips and shout, "You don't own me?"
Should I say that if the LDS Church were doing its job, I wouldn't have to?
Any other ideas?

And what makes you qualified for this new job that you have assigned yourself? Most pastors and priests have a theological background. Do you? For most of these men and women you are just a Mormon attempting to convince them that your church is true.
Of course, you are attempting to do this but you have become a little wishy washy about gospel matters but still...what are your qualifications? Now if you had a doctorate in Mormon studies, they may take the bait and have a discussion.
I intend to lay a foundation that will revolutionize the whole world.

But I've never seen thews make a point. Otherwise I would have hung in there with him like I've done with droopy, bcspace, gmetz & why me.

Aah, if those pastors and priests with academic theological degrees think Consiglieri has something to add to the discussion, that's not good enough for you.
One need not have a doctorate in Mormons Studies to fruitfully discuss Mormonism unless you want to personally confess that you
1. Have a doctorate in Mormon Studies or
2. Your posts here are not fruitful

thews wrote:You take lying to a new level. You squelch your knowledge to believers who think the Urim and Thummim were not seer stones, keeping the truth from them, and now your selective lying now wishes to "educate" Christians? Which parts will you leave out in your concocted hogwash? How a teacher to itching ears sleeps at night is beyond me, but somehow you've rationalized when to lie and how to lie as a productive thing.
I am a wolf in sheep's clothing. I will leave out anything that might put the LDS Church in a bad light. I will lie my ass off in order to promote the LDS Church and, with any luck, I will draw away some of the sheep from the folds of these other Christian churches and lure them into Mormonism.
And there's nothing you can do about it.

LUCIFER: . . . Are you a preacher?
SECTARIAN MINISTER: I am.
LUCIFER: Have you been to college and received training for the ministry?
SECTARIAN MINISTER: Certainly! A man cannot preach unless has been trained for the ministry.
