I wonder how Mormons are supposed to vote in countries where there isn't a conservative, free-market capitalist political party. What say you, spaceman?
One should merely follow the doctrine. Voting for a socialist for example, shows that one does not accept the doctrine.
If you were born outside of America, you were less valiant in the pre-existence.
Doesn't follow.

What's worse than a Democrat is someone who judges people's righteousness based on their political affiliation. The technical term for such a person is "self-righteous blowhard."

In other words, don't listen to bcspace because he has no idea what LDS doctrine is.

Come Sunday Gladys could be feeling Guilty and her SP will phone her and say "Do Nothing Till You Speak To Me"...

You already know I'm right about homosexuality. For socialism, see Enrichment section L in the D&C Institute manual. We could list any number of doctrines that put Democrats in opposition to the gospel ala Romans 1:32 at the very least.

Political affiliation is merely an outward expression of inward beliefs. It is not unreasonable therefore to compare political platform and ideology with doctrine and make such judgements.
It's no different than say, teaching your child that the stove burns because it is hot. I also teach them that being a Democrat is wrong because they are in opposition to the Gospel on so many issues.

So is the Church lying when it claims political neutrality?

Bspace, do recognize a difference between taking a moral position on an issue and advocating a particular public policy in service of that position?
Just by way of example, it is possible for a Republican and a Democrat to believe that premarital sex and abortion are both morally wrong. But the Republican may believe that the best way to mitigate the impact of these evils is to advocate abstinence only sex eduction in public schools and making all abortion a crime. Whereas, the Democrat may hold the opposite view, that the best way to mitigate the effects of these evils in society is to teach safe sex and keep abortion safe and legal.
Clearly, the Lord requires that his Saints regard these acts as sins. But does he further require that they hold certain positions about how these sins are regulated in the public sphere? You might think it makes no sense to advocate for legally regulated abortion if you are personally anti-abortion, but it might make perfect sense to someone else.
If the Democrat's politics are informed by LDS doctrine and moral standards, then at what point is the sin committed? Even if it is monumentally stupid to think that Democratic policies will result in less premarital sex and abortion overall, is stupidity a sin?
