Add to that Justice Souter was appointed by a Republican. An unearned gift for liberals.
He's retired.
I know. I was addressing the erroneous notion that the Court is Republican controlled.
There will always be a cloud over PPACA if it's not fully struck down as Kagan and the Obama Administration continue to refuse to answer questions about Kagan's involvement in how to legally defend the legislation and why she won't recuse herself from this decision.

Sounds like a wise person, and considering the fact that they consistently side with corporations against citizens, accurate.
In all the closely ruled cases (5-4) in which the right-wing, big-corporation lobbying group known as the "US Chamber of Commerce" has been either a party or an amicus, the Roberts court has ruled in their favor over 70% of the time.
Sam Alito (the guy who got so angry when Obama dared to say they were wrong on Citizens United) has been the most consistent corporate lapdog on the court. He has never voted against chamber interests in any contested decision.

I disagree with the Supreme Court’s ruling on the mandatory juvenile to life without parole equals cruel and unusual punishment.
When I lived in the ghetto, honestly it was the juveniles who were the worst criminals of all. I'm not sure how society wants to deal with them, but the juveniles definitely pose a bigger threat to those of us who are targets for robbery and murder.
And when the confederates saw Jackson standing fearless as a stone wall the army of Northern Virginia took courage and drove the federal army off their land.
Obamacare mandate upheld with Roberts part of the majority. Lolololololololol.
Whatever appears to be against the Book of Mormon is going to be overturned at some time in the future. So we can be pretty open minded.-charity 3/7/07

I have to say that I applaud Roberts for considering the legacy of the court that bears his name.
I predict that this (the court upholding the ACA) will substantially improve the popularity of the law among the American people, especially given the fact that its unpopularity is due almost entirely to Republican demonizing (proven by the popularity of the individual components).

It is an unmitigated disaster but no surprise considering the way previous cases invoking the commerce clause over the last "70" years have been decided. The liberal justices remain the the politically active bench legislators they always have, justifying any Republican/Conservative appointments for decades to come, however Roberts is merely of the mold claimed to be.
Congress has invoked that commerce authority to justify a vast range of legislation, from environmental regulation to the Civil Rights Act of 1964. Conservatives wanted to see the Supreme Court put a limit on the commerce power, and Thursday it did.
"The Commerce Clause is not a general license to regulate an individual from cradle to grave, simply because he will predictably engage in particular transactions," the chief justice wrote.
Justice Anthony Kennedy, joined by Justices Antonin Scalia, Clarence Thomas and Samuel Alito, said they would have struck down the entire law, arguing that neither the government's commerce nor taxing power justified the mandate.
By reinterpreting the insurance mandate and changing the Medicaid provision, the majority engaged in "vast judicial overreaching," the dissenters said. "The court today decides to save a statute Congress did not write," they said.
What this means in the short term of course is that the job market will continue to be suppressed (the anemic jobs recovery we experienced was destroyed the same month Obamacare passed) as employers find it too expensive to hire. And while outsourced jobs tend to actually add more and better jobs here in the states, the jobs outsourced because of Obamacare, usually blue collar, are not replaced. Add to that Obama's addition of nearly a million illegal workers to the job market and the economy suffers yet another hamstring.
