Obamacare upheld as constitutional....

and Gerry Bradford voted with the majority. Might as well blame him for something else right Mormons?

Obamacare was sponsored by Senator Harry Reid, a Mormon. In fact, he was celebrating the victory in a speech to the on the Senate floor not long ago. I'm happy to see this upheld by the Court since it will provide insurance for those without the possibility of having insurance so they can get the medical care they need.

Yeah it was upheld. Chief Justice Roberts voted with the majority on the mandate calling it a "tax" and thus constitutional.

Obama and Roberts were nose to nose. Roberts blinked.

Nah, I don't think it was like that. Roberts is a smart guy who began seeing that his chief legacy as Chief Justice might well have been Citizens United unless something changed quickly. I think he is fundamentally fair-minded, a Conservative in the good sense, not a partisan hack like Thomas.

Sweet. My wife, who teaches tax law and was writing on this, is most happy about the outcome, since a ruling against this would have meant having to rewrite an article she is working on. Silly, I know, but it is important for her career.

In any case, it looks like the next fight will be over the insurance exchanges in the states, an issue that has not been settled once and for all by this decision.

I am glad Roberts voted with the majority.

The surprise is that Roberts became the swing vote instead of Kennedy. Court watchers predicted either a 5-4 defeat, with Kennedy swinging right; or a 6-3 win, with Kennedy swinging left and Roberts joining in to make it less controversial, and also to write the historic opinion himself.

I assume Roberts is concerned about legacy.

I so agree with that characterization of Thomas.

Discretion may be the better part of valor. But it was still a blink.
