Interestingly, a member of our Stake Presidency let slip during one Sunday School lesson that he is currently studying the Book of Mormon using the original text, prompting some funny looks and the odd comment in jest.

Is he apostate?

I would have responded by asking where he learned to read reformed Egyptian.

Here is what Schryver wrote in his announcement of the fireside at MDDB:

Royal Skousen and his wife are making their annual pilgrimage to Cedar City, Utah where they will be staying at the Hotel Schryver, attending a performance of Les Miserables at the nationally renown Tony Award-winning Utah Shakespeare Festival, and also attending the great Cedar City Independence Day Parade down the historic Main Street of town.

He makes it sound as though Skousen and his wife are staying with the Schryvers. So, unless he's lying through his teeth, I think we can safely conclude that they know each other quite well.

He also recently wrote on a thread at MDDB that he and Skousen are writing articles together. I can't seem to find the thread again at the moment, but Don Bradley was on that thread, as I recall, so he can probably confirm what I'm pretty sure I read.

By the way, there have been many good suggestions for questions. I'll keep thinking about how I"ll phrase my question, should I get the chance to ask one.

Aren't 'Les Miserables' residing at the Peterson residence?

A little while ago I spoke on the phone with someone I know who is in Schryver's ward (as I used to be, for a few months, prior to my divorce and a stake reorg about a year ago). She told me the following:

- Schryver has mentioned in gospel doctrine class (he's the teacher) that he is a friend of "Royal Skousen, the Book of Mormon expert".

- He (Schryver) claims to be writing academic articles about the Book of Abraham with Skousen.

- He claims to be a friend of the son of Elder Dallin Oaks.

- Daniel Peterson and his wife attended Schryver's ward a few weeks ago. She saw Peterson and Schryver talking on a couch in the foyer all during priesthood meeting.

Ask him who he thinks wrote the witness statements.

If you head on down to Cedar City, don't forget to check out the Mormon Miracle Pageant in Manti, Utah. This year the Giant Cricket will be played by the esteemed William Schryver, who brings his well known pizazz to the role. Playing opposite Schryver in the role of the Giant Seagull is newcomer Bridget Jack, whose rendition of "Don't Cry for Me Happy Valley" is heart warming. She is totally believable went she adds, "the truth is I never left you".
