"Of 'Mormon Studies' and Apologetics"

I must really be bored this summer as I patiently await the start of new school year. Since I read Peggy Fletcher Stack's article about the reorganization of the Maxwell Institute, I have found myself following the ongoing debates about what happened and why.

I was beginning to believe, as late as this morning, that the controversy had run its course. But now I wonder if this might go on for quite a while longer.

Daniel Peterson just posted this on his blog:

I’ve changed the topic I had proposed to speak on at the FAIR Conference that will be held in Sandy, Utah, toward the beginning of August. I’m going to address the topic “Of ‘Mormon Studies’ and Apologetics.”

It sounds to me like the apologists are going to continue this fight to the bitter end ................... or even longer. It makes me wonder if perhaps this won't come to an end until the church gets sick of Peterson's sour grapes and comes down hard on him.

I think the first indicator will be if we stop seeing his weekly Mormon Times articles.
