I am convinced the Peterson and Hamblin ship is sinking fast. They seem to be doing everything in their power to divert all attention from their stupidity and focus on attacking John. They remind my of what I was taught in my Search and Rescue class for Scuba diving. When someone is in distress, they are usually dangerous to be next to, it is best for their safety and those who are trying to rescue them to allow them to either pass-out or become so weak they will not fight. If you attempt to rescue them when they are panicking, they can rip your mask or regulator from you and then you can die.

Hamblin's point about Dehlin's call on Facebook for examples of "ad hominem" attacks in MI publications is legit. Why doesn't John already have such a list handy? He has been critical of the tone of apologetics coming out of MI for years. It makes him look amateurish. Also, why ask his Facebook friends? Why not just look at the examples compiled here?

But DCP's post is just ricockulous. He knows very well where the story about John Dehlin being involved in the death of a missionary in Guatemala came from--it came from remarks made by Lou Midgley directly to John Dehlin at a conference. That some folks have become confused and think it was something in the hit piece is understandable given all the smoke the mopes have been blowing on this issue since early May. DCP could have just set the record straight on his blog by pointing out that Midgley's unfounded accusation made when he confronted John Dehlin at a conference was the source of this defamatory rumor. Instead, he acts as if he has no idea where the idea came from. And then Smith plays along with the charade in the comments. They are absolutely without shame. Or integrity. But we already knew that, didn't we?

Do they hope to get back their old jobs?

Everything they have done since getting the boot has convinced most everyone who wasn't in the bag for them already that they needed that boot badly.

This has nothing to do with apologetics. It is about insubordination and undermining your boss.

I agree that the way DCP, Midgley, Hamblin, and their cohorts have treated John Dehlin is despicable. I only meant that the point Hamblin made regarding John's call to his Facebook BFFs was legit: John ought to know these clowns are stalking him, and he ought to be careful about giving them any help in deflecting the issue away from their own truculency.

If they didn't want such a reputation, they would cut out the junior high behavior and stick to writing actual scholarship that is not interspersed with screeds, character assassinations, and bullying.

True, but sometimes one should use a rifle rather than a shotgun. John could easily have used back channels to get the information he was seeking--he didn't need to blast this request to the world (which is, essentially, what he is doing when he posts to his Facebook groups). Having said that, the weakness of the apologetic position here is revealed by their attempt to attack the method of John's information-gathering techniques rather than address the substantive issues. It's a typical apologetic dodge.
