And what else is new, eh?
There is a long line of nasty fights behind this latest one.
These guys are the goon squad of the modern LDS Church.
If they didn't want such a reputation, they would cut out the junior high behavior and stick to writing actual scholarship that is not interspersed with screeds, character assassinations, and bullying.
Indeed. Perhaps they are envious of John and his zillions of Facebook followers and the fact that he is a darling of the media. After all, the NYT never calls Midgley for a quote for stories on the Mormon Moment--they call John Dehlin. "When men are full of envy they disparage everything, whether it be good or bad."
"The Church is authoritarian, tribal, provincial, and founded on a loosely biblical racist frontier sex cult."--Juggler Vain "The LDS church is the Amway of religions. Even with all the soap they sell, they still manage to come away smelling dirty."--Some Schmo

Do they hope to get back their old jobs?
Everything they have done since getting the boot has convinced most everyone who wasn't in the bag for them already that they needed that boot badly.
This has nothing to do with apologetics. It is about insubordination and undermining your boss.
I was thinking the same thing when I was directed to Dan's blog entry from Facebook. It is like this guy just doesn't want it to die down at all. Just when you thought the smoke had cleared, here comes Dan with another blog post which did nothing but beat a straw man to death and stirred up more anger among his Peterpologists.

On several occasions in past years I have found myself asking on this board, in relation some typically Petersonian piece of paranoiac narcissism in print or on the internet "Why doesn't DCP see how bad this is making him (and his church) look, and stop it?".
But clearly he is so fascinated and impressed by the sound of his own voice that he has become incapable of imagining that he might ever leave a negative impression on anyone. This is not going to change.
Zadok: I did not have a faith crisis. I discovered that the Church was having a truth crisis. Maksutov: That's the problem with this supernatural stuff, it doesn't really solve anything. It's a placeholder for ignorance.
And yet... out here in the real world, no one has heard of this at all.
(Nevo, Jan 23) And the Melchizedek Priesthood may not have been restored until the summer of 1830, several months after the organization of the Church.

Don't be so cruel to poor old Daniel.

Reality bites.

DCP wrote:A narrative has been woven about me long since, in certain circles, portraying me as a virtual monster of extreme, violent, mean-spirited, heartless, unscrupulous, take-no-prisoners polemics. This portrayal is, and always has been, false. And I won’t stand silently by while this latest bogus example of unethical viciousness is attached to my legend.
