Yes. The problem, in my opinion, will not be the leaders, the problem will be the rank and file in places like Utah county. Didn't BKP already admit that they do not fear intellectuals destroying the church, they fear the far right conservatives taking big chunks of people with them when they leave? There would be pockets of people in UT county that would absolutely take this as a sign that it is time to practice polygamy and take plenty of people with them on the way out.
It is my province to teach to the Church what the doctrine is. It is your province to echo what I say or to remain silent.

I haven't been to Utah in some time, but I find it very hard to believe that large segments of the Mormon Church (after this long) are willing to go back down the road of polygamy. I think the Church has been punished enough for that sin, I can't imagine anyone dreams of reliving it.

Tobin, do you accept the Doctrine & Covenants or do you think it's claimed revelations are baloney?

I accept the truth. I don't however just accept some magic sayings because they are "officially" published in anything (the Bible, Book of Mormon, Book of Abraham, D&C, Ensign, and so on). I'd rather employ reason, understand the context, undertand whether it was speculation or something else, and so on. And if after considering it, I can't decide. Then I'll even employ, shocking as this may sound, some inspiration from God.

+100!
(Nevo, Jan 23) And the Melchizedek Priesthood may not have been restored until the summer of 1830, several months after the organization of the Church.

I said to Mrs Drifting, "we're gonna need a bigger bed".
Which I thought was funny.
Apparently I was the only one who did so in the Drifting household.

There is another option if polygamy is legalized. They could allow it, but not encourage it. You wouldn't be excommunicated for having more than one wife, but it wouldn't be something that everyone is encouraged to do. If this was done, then the Church numbers could include some or all of the polygamous break-off sects back into its fold.

This was not a volunteer position. Every man would need to be called to Adultery. We'd soon run out of scarlet A's.

That's ok, there are plenty of letters left in the alphabet.

Another option would be like the stand on egg and sperm donation. It is "discouraged" but there are absolutely no penalties for doing so -- and if a child is born from a donated egg or sperm he/she is automatically sealed to the legal parents.

So the Church could sort of discourage it or merely not advocate it as it did with full force in the 19th Century, but allow members to do it if they want.
