Who was the woman who tore pages out of books (Mormon Historical Society?) because they contradicted current whitewashed history? (or am I mis-remembering?)
(Nevo, Jan 23) And the Melchizedek Priesthood may not have been restored until the summer of 1830, several months after the organization of the Church.

She was a former President of the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers, whose organization had been entrusted to preserve many pioneer diaries. She routinely tore out pages from these diaries in which she felt the events these diarists experienced were unflattering to the Church.

Maya codices There were many such books in existence at the time of the Spanish conquest of Yucatán in the 16th century, but they were destroyed in bulk by the Conquistadors and priests soon after. In particular, all those in Yucatán were ordered destroyed by Bishop Diego de Landa (a Spanish Bishop of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Yucatán.) in July of 1562.
You know, that great and abominable church and its leaders --------

She's in good company then (in her mind at least). The first presidency vault is full of "unflattering" information. The church's excuse is that such material contains confidential information like notes of disciplinary councils and such, but after Mark Hoffman I don't know that anyone really believes that excuse anymore.

It was me, ME! I never allowed anything into print that I thought would be injurious to my church or reflect discredit upon our pioneers. I destroyed the minutes of the Cedar City Stake High Council meeting! I tore pages out of pioneer journals and burned them! Me, Me, ME!!!

If it really is "full of 'unflattering' information" and the Church therefore, wanting above all else to preserve itself, doesn't want members to reat those books, why hasn't the Church destroyed those books? They've had them in their possession for over a century now; why do those books still exist?
