You could get a better idea by looking at Sacrament meeting attendance year over year. But the church doesn't report those numbers. Or by tithing contributions year over year. Or Melch. priesthood ordinations year over year. The baptismal numbers are meaningless and the church knows it.

I agree. PR keeps the church from reporting more accurate numbers to the public, but we can get them from places like a census.

900,000 brazilians? That sounds like a huge number!

How many is in a brazilian?

The current deffinition of Mormon Doctrine is "What the majority of the members practice and believe to be true"

12,000,000 members is believed to be the actual statistic according to most active LDS, but that count is a lie.

I am surprised LDS Inc doesn't boast a membership number that includes all the dead for whom baptisms have been done.

Manaus Brazil Temple 'A place of much peace and beauty'

MANAUS, BRAZIL

The faith and commitment of Latter-day Saints living here can be likened to the Amazon River, said President Dieter F. Uchtdorf. Both flow deep and strong.

President Uchtdorf, second counselor in the First Presidency, dedicated the Manaus Brazil Temple on June 10.

The temple is the Church's 138th worldwide and sixth in Brazil — where there are more than 1 million members.

"We wanted to show the growth of the Church in Manaus and the challenges of the members of the Church to go to the temple," Sister Gall said.

Dozens who served as LDS missionaries in Manaus returned to Brazil for the cultural celebration and temple dedication. In addition, they attended mission reunion and organized a local service project.

Ben Martinsen of St. George, Utah, has been following the progress of the temple from the United States since ground was broken in 2008. He served as a missionary in Brazil from 1999 to 2001. He said he can't believe the growth the Church has experienced in the city in the 11 years since he returned home.

Well...it seems like Ben was right not to believe it...

It's a no-brainer. 6 temples create the illusion of growth and at the same time line the pockets of well-connected construction companies.

First Quorum of the Seventy
Elder Claudio Roberto Mendes Costa was sustained a member of the First Quorum of the Seventy of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on March 31, 2001. He currently serves as president of the Brazil Area. He served in the Second Quorum of the Seventy from April 1994 through March 2001.

He has served in the Presidency of the Seventy and as president of the South America North Area, president of the Brazil North Area, and as a counselor in the Brazil and South America South Areas.

He studied marketing in São Paulo as a young man and later served for 13 years in various positions in the Church Educational System. At the time of his calling as a General Authority, he was the director of the Church’s institute of religion in São Paulo.

I think Claudio may be on the red eye to Salt Lake with his spreadsheets and pocket calculator to explain just how the census could be so wrong...
