In summary, neither the Church nor its leaders have any particular claim to authority or truth, but somehow the Church is true anyway.

Do you have any particular claim to truth? Aren't you really just presenting your opinion?

Have you ever believed in God?

Have you ever believed in Christ?

I'm holding on your rope
Got me ten feet off the ground
And I'm hearing what you say
But I just can't make a sound
You tell me that you need me
Then you go and cut me down
But wait...
You tell me that you're sorry
Didn't think I'd turn around and say..

That it's too late to apologize, it's too late
I said it's too late to apologize, it's too late

Sorry Jo, you had your chance to explain and apologise, you are now going on ignore...3...2...1...

Plagiarism is defined in dictionaries as the "wrongful appropriation," "close imitation," or "purloining and publication" of another author's "language, thoughts, ideas, or expressions," and the representation of them as one's own original work,

Perhaps Drifting is unfamiliar with this word:

http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/apology
apol·o·gy
noun \ə-ˈpä-lə-jē\
plural apol·o·gies
Definition of APOLOGY
1
a : a formal justification : defense b : excuse Second Amendment
2
: an admission of error or discourtesy accompanied by an expression of regret <a public apology>

by the way, I just found this:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Plagiarism

Plagiarism is defined in dictionaries as the "wrongful appropriation," "close imitation," or "purloining and publication" of another author's "language, thoughts, ideas, or expressions," and the representation of them as one's own original work,

Did you not understand what plagiarism means?

Hello Drifting,

I guess you failed to notice that my apology posted before you gave me the definition of plagiarism - which by the way, you plagiarized from Wikipedia.

Funny, I heard this exact same statement from multiple ravers while living in Japan. Of course, they could be excused due to the MDMA and LSD-25 coursing through their veins, and brains.

Who needs Looney Tunes when you have Mormon Discussions. ;)

Hello Gramps!

Don't you know that Truth will set you free?? Who needs drugs when Truth can blow your mind?

Do you think passing off other peoples words as your own is an example of someone following his counsel, or perhaps not?
How do you feel about the Articles of Faith, in particular the one about being honest and true?

I think, given the comprehensive evidence of your plagiarism, that you owe the board an apology and perhaps it's worth you making an appointment to see your Bishop next Sunday to talk about your Temple Recommend.

Misleading people is what we are told Satan does, you're not Satan are you?

Wow - you are quite the judge, aren't you? When I am posting, I don't hang around on the very same thread waiting for someone to respond. I either am busy posting elsewhere, or am busy with life in general. As soon as I saw Darth's post to me I immediately began to address it. In addition to the apology I made, I was also composing the rest of my comments to be included in the same post to him. Do you require a person's blood or something in order to meet your standards??

by the way, I do find a lot of irony in the fact that you plagiarized from Wikipedia the definition of plagiarism you used against me. You sure do not sound like a very happy person to me.

So, according to your standards, how soon should we be expecting to see your apology for your act of plagiarism?

You are kidding, right? I posted my apology with my explanation before you recorded your post which I am now responding to.

and jo just shakes her head in disbelief......

Joseph also believed in reincarnation. I have no doubt this knowledge helped him make sense of all scripture so that there was nothing that needed to be tossed out in order to accept different passages and revelations.

Opps wrong again. I would say more, but Darth again has pretty much said it and schooled you in a major way. Dam hes good. I am fine with what you want to believe, but if you want to suggest people like Joseph Smith held the same beliefs you will be asked for references. Why is it you cannot give direct references where Darth did. I would think direct references of Joseph saying it is evil should Trump indirect sources as to what his stance on the matter is, especially when these indirect ones are taken out of context. Darth is right that you need to start referencing your quotes, since not doing it is stating them as your own words.

In all seriousness, though, that's fascinating stuff. I had never heard those quotes before, so thanks for sharing them.

Hello Cylon!!

I feel very strongly - spiritually speaking - that something very significant is taking place on the earth. I also am seeing this same thing being manifested by many of the posters on this board. I know that you sense it. I know that Tobin senses it; as do NightLion and others. Some posters are at the beginning of catching on...and still others - well - not so much. But that is OKAY!!

I think you've got the wrong idea of me. You, Nightlion, and Tobin see the changes that have come in the church and take it as evidence that the church has gone astray from the truth. I see plenty of evidence that the church never had the truth, so the changes that have come are just what should be expected from a man-made institution trying to survive in a changing culture.

But, taking someone else's words and passing them off as your own is plagiarism even if you do add in a few of your own words. That kind of thing doesn't help your case. And you know damn well that the kind of apology people are talking about here requires an admission of regret because of your wrongdoing. Trying to claim your self-justification counts as an apology is super lame. Just own up. Say you're sorry and move on.

I fail to see where you apologized for plagiarism. Additionally, you never explained why you're so willing to be dishonest about your source material. So, now you have shown the ability to be a plagiarist, and flippant about it.
