He was? Where/when did he say that?

From his Wiki (it is referenced)
Peterson served a mission in the Switzerland Zurich mission. He served on the LDS Church's gospel doctrine committee and has also served in at least one BYU ward bishopric.

From SHIELDS

Dr. Peterson served in the Switzerland Zürich Mission, and, for approximately eight years, on the Gospel Doctrine writing committee for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

That's not the correlation committee. What it sounds like is that he was on the committee that wrote the Gospel Doctrine (i.e., Sunday School) manuals.

Not the same thing.

The Gospel Doctrine writing committee writes Sunday School manuals.

The Correlation committee reviews everything the church publishes, including the aforementioned Sunday School manuals.

This is also what President McKay thought when Harold B. Lee originally proposed the idea, referring to it sacrastically as "Lee's super-priesthood correlation committee."

President McKay was percipient enough to recognize the correlation committee would ultimately become more powerful than the apostles, but he hadn't the strength of will to thwart it.

He even said it sounded like the way the great apostasy happened . . .

In Dan's defense, he has been pretty clear he doesn't think much of the manuals and never uses them when he teaches.

Some people treat the manuals like they were inscribed in God's own hand like Moses' tablets. They must not think much of God's intelligence.

McKay had his problems, but he was one of the last true Mormons.

If he could see what has happened to the church since correlation, I'm sure he would weep.
