Re: Creedal Trinity misunderstood by LDS
Joseph Smith said the Trinity is three gods.
"I have always declared God to be a distinct personage, Jesus Christ a separate and distinct personage from God the Father, and the Holy Ghost was a distinct personage and a Spirit: and these three constitute three distinct personages and three Gods," (Teachings of Prophet Joseph Smith, p. 370).
Why would you say One God when Joeph Smith Jr Said three gods

not sure what your confusion is but it is obvious that there is no conflict with the LDS doctrine of the distinct individuality and perfect unity of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Ghost.
If i understand you correctly, you would stand by the rather temporal solution that God is composed of three persons...as is the basic definition of the Trinity...whereas the LDS definition is that there are three separate deities which unite as one God.

That has never been my understanding of the Mormon godhead which I understand as being three separate persons who are three separate Gods who are united and one in purpose. The puzzle comes in for me as to how Jesus could be a God before he gained a body and how the Holy Ghost (Holy Spirit) could be a God when he is a "personage of spirit and presumably will never come to earth to gain the prerequisite body necessary in Mormon progression theology.

You can add to that list Adam/Michael - the Book of Abraham refers to him and Jesus as 'the Gods'.

Mittens, please disregard my post above as addressing you. In rereading your post I misunderstood what you were saying when I read it first time.

Drifting, it does appear to demonstrate an glaring inconsistency.

I think you will find that the believing members of the board can provide you with scriptural references for baptism on behalf of the dead.
But that aside, what was your point?
Mormons seem to make a lot from little and little of a lot... But they do not understand any concept of God other then God must be just like a man ---- sort of a Greek or Roman concept.

First
learn how to use the quote tool when you post a reply...its really not that hard, i understand your vitriol is a distraction, but it would help the rest of us assume that some sort of coherence is happening on your end.
Second
what i said is clear, interpret deities however you like (you seem to be in that mode anyway).
Obviously you are struggling with the rather simple of concept of being one and being of one...im afraid there is little i can do that a high school education could not do better.
Jesus saith unto her, Touch me not; for I am not yet ascended to my Father: but go to my brethren, and say unto them, I ascend unto my Father, and your Father; and [to] my God, and your God. John 20:17
or as you would have it written
"For I am not yet ascended to myself...I ascend unto myself...and to myself"
Perhaps you should realize that as a Trinitarian you are not free to cast any stones, otherwise you could easily resolve how you are able to call three as in "trinity" - yet also one?
Seek freedom and become captive of your desires...seek discipline and find your liberty

I know that feeling especially when Mormons speak concerning the "spirit" mother god Wisdom. She is I assume like Athena. God the Father is Zeus, Satan is Prometheus.

Man is Triune ---- Body, soul, spirit
God is Triune ---- Christ, Father, Spirit
God is Triune ---- Christ, Father, Spirit
