In a move that astonished Downing Street, hours before it laid on a special reception for Romney at No 10 he told NBC there were "disconcerting" signs about the preparations for the Games.

David Cameron wasted no time in rebuking Romney hours after his remarks were broadcast. On a visit to the Olympic Park, the prime minister said: "We are holding an Olympic Games in one of the busiest, most active, bustling cities anywhere in the world. Of course it's easier if you hold an Olympic Games in the middle of nowhere."

I can't stand Romney but this seems like much ado about nothing. That said, the guy just can't help being a total douche. He said he was going to see the swimming events because Americans tend to do well in swimming. I really don't think he has any clue how obnoxious he comes across.

US presidential candidate Mitt Romney has predicted a "very successful" London Olympics after meeting Prime Minister David Cameron.
Mr Romney told US television there were "disconcerting" signs Britain was not ready to stage the Games.
But hours later, in Downing Street, he said all Games were hit by "small" mistakes and he had seen "great progress" since arriving in the UK.

Considering that Great Britain is in a deep recession, Mitt was probably right. They could have used all that money for more worthy causes. Britain, when they signed up for the Olympics did not see such an economy that they now have.

To me, it sounded like he was reflexively pimping his business. It's like he was thinking about a pitch of taking over the Olympics in a leveraged buyout, turning it around, and then selling it back to London for top dollar.
