Religious art Not Seen in Mormon Culture

In the for what it's worth category. I worked for some time in a field related to the Utah art scene (framing) and met numerous very talented artists in Utah. While we didn't get into the subject of religion, I assume many were LDS. The overall common factor among those who made a living as painters or who had any kind of real success was that their success was outside Utah. Most could not sell much within Utah. This is art in general rather than specifically religious art.

I dunno, I'm not an art major. Lol. I like some of the Catholic kitsch. :) touchdown Jesus is a little too much for me though. Ha.



Also, in terms of accessibility for children, there is always the child Jesus, which is seen everywhere in Catholicism. Not just in a nativity scene at Christmas. The Good Shepherd, depicting Jesus as a infant, toddler or young boy is common. There's also a "serious" painting that depicts Jesus and John the Baptist playing as toddlers, or, working with Joseph at carpentry. Paintings and other art with an infant or child Jesus with St. Joseph is popular, especially for dads. And of course there is the Infant of Prague.

Since "discovering" Catholic art myself, I've thought that Mormons would be especially attracted to the Holy Family themed art....still seems to only be attractive to them at Christmas.

Hey Maddie I love the toddler/child Jesus! This is pretty new for me. I found some more.

I grew up with Madeline's guardian angel picture in my bedroom and this one in the upstairs hallway along with pictures of saints and statues of The Infant of Prague, the Immaculate Conception and, The Sacred Heart of Jesus. It was a big hallway upstairs.




I have this one in my downstairs hallway now, I just like it and so do my kids, we all like Catholic kitsch
