Edelman Worldwide - The family proclamation

Post by _Uther »

Im unsure if this has been a previous topic, so I state my ignorance and ask if any of you have any more information about the involvement of Edelman Worldwide in the coming forth of the proclamation of the family, than is found in this link:

About Joseph Smith.. How do you think his persona was influenced by being the storyteller since childhood? Mastering the art of going pale, changing his voice, and mesmerizing his audience.. How do you think he was influenced by keeping secrets and lying for his wife and the church members for decades?

This is the kind of nonsense that makes my blood boil. I hate how the political ghost of President Benson haunts the halls of Mormondom.

So to make sure I understand you correctly, you say this is an unsubstantiated rumor based on the exmormon board run by Mr. Benson?

Is Mr. Benson a ghost of his grandfather?

Sometimes he seems that way. He is every bit as strident in his opinions as ole Ez was.

I wonder what Joseph Smith would think if he knew the apostles of his church were taking orders from a PR firm and bureaucrats.

Im a foreigner on a distant continent, turning to this board with a question that interests me. The reason for chosing this board is the level of knowledge of things related to Mormonism that I find here, combined with intelligent and open conversation.

Kish, excuse me but I don't understand what you meant by your reply.
Initially I was asking about a small part of the linked article in regards to the statement about Edelman Worldwide in regards to the proclamation on the family. that's all I ask, is it a unsubstansiated rumor or does anyone know more about this?

My apologies, Uther. I was simply bitching about the fringe conservative agenda that many Mormons use the Church to promote.

From the article:
In 1995, after years of bad press regarding the firing of academic feminists and excommunications of intellectuals, the LDS church hired Edelman Worldwide, a high-powered public relations firm, to recast the church's image. Soon thereafter the church changed its logo and issued The Family: A Proclamation to the World. The Proclamation has become indispensable to Mormons in discussions regarding the family.

They imply that the Proclamation was issued as a result of the hiring of the PR firm, but it's only an implication. Nevertheless, everything they say here is true. The church did hire Edelman Worldwide in 1995 (see the press release here), and the Proclamation did come soon after (in September 1995). I've never seen any direct evidence that the one caused the other, though. I guess you can draw your own conclusions.

You really, really don't get it, do you?

Or do you, and all of this kind of thing is just a game that you play to amuse you're own intellectual ego?
