Re: MFBukowski: Shafted By the Mopologists?
Ken West is a good man. When I first arrived at BYU, my very first semester as a lonely 18 year-old non-Mormon freshman on a big, 30,000ish member campus, he was a hall advisor for Heritage Halls. He would usually eat dinner with his wife and two children at the Morris Center near my dorm. Somehow we met up, and I wound up having dinner with him and his family almost every time we were both at the Morris Center. We had many fascinating conversations about philosophy and theology; he was always supremely respectful of my traditional Christian beliefs. That was the semester that he first got accepted to Yale. He never struck me as much of an apologist.
I haven't kept up with him very well over the years, and I don't know what's going on with SMPT, but I would just urge people not to attribute wrong-doing to him without evidence.

I only met him once at that conference at Yale, but he seemed like a real good guy. I've met Ben Huff once as well, but good friends of mine know him well and say good things about him. I definitely wasn't meaning to attribute any wrongdoing to Ken, so sorry if it came across that way.

I'm beginning to genuinely feel bad for Dan -- he's really getting piled on these past few months by those who seemed to be "supporters." With friends like that ....

The plot thickens:
DCP wrote:I'm still not very clear as to what happened -- did "Greg Kofford Books" solicit donations for SMPT from you, or something like that? Are you suggesting that "Greg Kofford Books" might be the one who allegedly told Chris Smith that I was "running [SMPT] into the ground?
Loyd Ericson, who vocally despises me and has gone out of his way on various occasions to publicly insult me, is an editor at Greg Kofford Books. He's also participated actively in SMPT.

Good grief!

Yeah, you may have a point. Based on his latest blog posting, it sounds like he's in trouble with one of the Brethren.

I think the reference is to this rather nervous-looking post:
DCP's blog sic et non wrote:In case there’s anybody out there who imagines, based upon what I’ve written on this blog, that I’ve become disaffected from Brigham Young University, let alone from the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, because of certain recent events — and I have it on good authority that there is at least one person out there who has drawn that erroneous conclusion — I want to be perfectly clear:
I love BYU. I’ve loved BYU since I was in my California teens. I still do.
My testimony of the Gospel of Jesus Christ as restored through the Prophet Joseph Smith is completely intact, as is my commitment to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. I sustain the First Presidency and the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles as prophets, seers, and revelators, and I sustain all of the other General Authorities, as well as my local Church leaders.
I still have a calling in the Church (I’m currently a Gospel Doctrine teacher, but have served on high councils, in a bishopric, and as a bishop, and served on the overall Gospel Doctrine writing committee of the Church for nearly a decade), I hold a valid temple recommend, and so forth.
I hope that’s clear enough to dispel any possible confusion.

That's the problem with this supernatural stuff, it doesn't really solve anything. It's a placeholder for ignorance.
