Is Romney just thick?

US presidential candidate Mitt Romney has made another gaffe - wrongly referring to the scene of a recent deadly gun attack at a Sikh place of worship as a 'sheik' temple.
The Republican politician, who is racing against President Barack Obama to become the next American president, made the mistake at a fundraising event in Iowa on Tuesday evening.

Paying tribute to those killed in the shooting in Wisconsin on Sunday, Mr Romney said: "We had a moment of silence in honour of the people who lost their lives at that sheikh temple. I noted that it was a tragedy for many, many reasons."

Further confusing the Arabic term with the Sikh religion, he went on: "Among them are the fact that people, the sheik people, are among the most peaceable and loving individuals you can imagine, as is their faith."

I don't like Romney and won't be voting for him, but these kinds of criticisms are lame. These presidential candidates give hours and hours of speeches day after day and it is all recorded. Everyone makes these kinds of slip-ups. That's all it is. Like when Obama said "57 states" instead of 50 states. The wingnuts continue to excoriate the President for that verbal miscue, wrongly accusing him of not knowing how many states there are, or worse, asserting that he was cryptically referring to 57 Islamic states. I think we should cut Romney some slack on this one.

It is the latest in a series of gaffes by Mr Romney.

During a trip to the UK last month he cast doubt on London's preparedness for the Olympic Games, offending high-level officials and overshadowing his visit to Downing Street.

In the same overseas tour, he went on to infuriate Palestinians by referring to Jerusalem as Israel's capital and saying that Israeli "culture" helps them succeed economically.

During his trip, Mr Romney earned himself the tabloid nickname ‘Mitt-the-Twit’ for raising questions about London's Olympics preparations. Despite backtracking, he appeared to have irritated Prime Minister David Cameron.

In the Middle East, he infuriated Palestinians by referring to Jerusalem as Israel's capital and saying that Israeli "culture" helps them succeed economically.

And his meeting with anti-communist hero Lech Walesa in Poland was tainted when the Solidarity union he headed said it actually supports American workers.

The White House and Mr Obama’s re-election team have jumped on Mr Romney's international gaffes.

Campaign spokeswoman Jen Psaki said: "He's been fumbling the foreign policy football from country to country. This raises some questions about his preparedness."

I think if he becomes President you can, as a nation, look forward to far less cooperation from foreign nations and further internal strife as he continues to offend wherever and whenever he opens his mouth.

I probably will vote for Romney, simply because I won't vote for 4 more years of Obama. However, these gaffes do hurt his credibility. I'm sure Romney knows the difference between shieks and sikhs, but he fits the stereotype of someone who doesn't know the difference between sheiks and sikhs. His gaffes reinforce negative stereotypes about him.

I really don't know. The economy has been stuck in a rut for 4 years and I guess I just want something to shake things up. But I'm as disgusted with the GOP as I am with the Democrats. Neither candidate excites me.

The economy being in a rut is not Obama's doing.
Europes economies have been in a rut for four years too.
If you cannot see some significant upside to a Republican Presidency (which oversaw the policies which started the global economic meltdown in the first place) then I think you are playing Russian Roulette with your country.
Europe likes Obama, Europe detests Romney and will not have anything like a special relationship with him.

Talk about nit pickers. Why not discuss something that matters --- like the world-wide depression and what can be done to end it. What exactly has Obama done? He hates suburbia. He dislikes Israel. He wants the rich to pay for everything. He thinks gay marriage is normal. And all you worry about is what some liberal press has to say about the Republican candidate's pronunciation... Romney's heart was in the right place, and that is really all that counts.

He thinks gay marriage is normal.

Most people want to treat it as normal

And all you worry about is what some liberal press has to say about the Republican candidate's pronunciation... Romney's heart was in the right place, and that is really all that counts.

Was his heart in the right place recently in Britain, Israel (speaking about Palestine) and Poland?

How about when he said he liked to be in a position to fire people?

How about when he fired the illegals he had working on his estate?

How about when he claimed to be among the unemployed, or within the middle class folks that account for 80-90% of the American public?
