It is great to see you George. I am terribly unqualified as an authority on Freemasonry.

George Miller wrote:Additionally, Mother Smith admitted in her autobiography that the Smith family thought of their magic as Masonic in nature.
If anyone has a cite on this, please post it.
Thanks.

Here is the citation. If you would like a further explanation on why I said what I did then please contact me backchannel.

Re: Don Bradley on the Lost 116-pages
I think it is important to distinguish between my views and Don Bradley's.
I do not believe that the Book of Mormon is ancient in the sense that the events it describes occurred in antiquity.
Don Bradley does not share this view. His views on these questions are something that he will have to articulate when and where appropriate.
Don't ask me exactly what Don thinks about this issue, because I really couldn't say.

Thanks, I don't see that "trying to win the faculty of Abrac drawing Magic circles or sooth saying" has to be exclusively Masonic. But maybe I just don't know enough.
Quinn says it isn't, Brooks says the opposite. For those interested, I have the quote as p 323 of Anderson's critical edition and the source is the Preliminary Manuscript

George Miller wrote:The main author Joseph Smith drew from in developing his methodology for creating a visionary experience with angels, and for teaching others to do the same, was thought to be the founder of Freemasonry in Europe.
And his name is?

Don's work on establishing a valid Hebrew temple in the Book of Mormon world was outstanding. His book should be a stunner. I have not been taught a single thing in so long I cannot remember when. Don did it! Was way cool. What the heck is all the grumbling about?

I'm sure you'll talk to George Miller via pm. I think he'll be able to enlarge on these ideas in at least a provocative manner, whether you find them agreeable or not (though, I expect you will?). I've found his arguments very persuasive, but this is really outside of my own personal Mormon history territory, so I won't poach on his game.

I don't know, I just don't know. I think this is interesting material for anyone who seeks to understand Joseph Smith from a variety of perspectives.

Agreed. I share Nightlion's puzzlement.
