Someone allowed them to build on choice land not far from the temple. Certainly, BY would not have allowed the devil's church such a plot of land. I think that brigham honored the catholics by having them so close to the temple.
I intend to lay a foundation that will revolutionize the whole world. Joseph Smith We are “to feed the hungry, to clothe the naked, to provide for the widow, to dry up the tear of the orphan, to comfort the afflicted, whether in this church, or in any other, or in no church at all…” Joseph Smith

I have no idea how close it is to temple square. He just tries to make a big deal about a Catholic Cathedral in Salt Lake City
Brigham Young was long dead by 1909 when the Cathedral was dedicated. The Cathedral is on 3rd East and South Temple.
Moksha beat me to it. Young died in 1877. The Cathedral was started in 1900 and finished in '09.
(I knew this was what he was referring to, but was hoping someone else would see the absurdity of the "BY allowed it" statement if they stopped to think when Young died vs. when the Cathedral was built.)
